The Cleveland NAACP, The NAACP National Voter Fund, The Advancement Project, SEIU, People for the American Way, and the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law are staging to respond to any voting irregularities that may occur on election day, March 4, 2008. Individuals can call 1-866-OURVOTE to report voting problems and receive live free assistance from trained volunteers.
This national effort is being coordinated locally by the Cleveland NAACP at their 2131 Stokes Blvd. offices. The local number is 216-231-6260.
“Teams of attorneys and volunteers have been trained on voting laws and procedures and are prepared to respond to reported voting problems in Greater Cleveland,” said Stan Miller Cleveland NAACP Executive Director.
This is not the first time the NAACP has served as the coordinating point for this type of activity. Similar operations were put in place for the 2004 and 2006 elections.
The NAACP is urging media organizations to make the 1-866-OURVOTE number available to readers, viewers and listeners today, March 3, 2008 and on election day, March 4, 2008.
