Barbara Byrd-Bennett’s
Annual Address at The City Club of Cleveland

 

CLEVELAND, OH—Barbara Byrd-Bennett, CEO of the
Cleveland Municipal School
District, will give her annual State of the
Cleveland Schools Address at noon on Tuesday, March 22,
2005, at The City Club of
Cleveland.

 

While the Mayor and civic leaders
deal with the immense challenges of adequate funding—the district projects a
$24.5 million deficit next school year—each day more than 70,000 children show
up at Barbara Byrd-Bennett’s doorstep wanting to learn and needing the skills
gained from a solid education. Barbara Byrd-Bennett will address the challenges
facing the Cleveland schools following the failure of
residents to pass a school levy last November.

 

Barbara Byrd-Bennett is an
experienced teacher, supervisor, administrator and researcher of urban
education. Educated in the Harlem public school system, Byrd-Bennett
worked with special education populations and diverse ethnic and linguistic
groups throughout her career as a teacher, administrator and superintendent in
the New
York public school system.
