March Against Crime: If you are tired of violent crime in our neighborhood, Second District Commander Keith Sulzer is asking you to join your neighbors for a march to the site of a recent murder. This Thursday July 30th at 6:00 pm, we will be stepping off from Market Square Park for a march to this murder site. Councilman Joe Cimperman is joining us on this march and would greatly appreciate your support. Details on this incident can be found in the following Plain Dealer article, with an excerpt copied and pasted below:
Jeremiah Jackson indicted in killing of Tracy Pickryl at Soap Opera Laundry in Cleveland
Posted by Donna J. Miller/Plain Dealer Reporter July 19, 2009 08:09AM
CLEVELAND - Jeremiah Jackson, 29, of East 36th Street, was indicted Friday in the shooting death of Tracy Pickryl during a robbery June 18 at the West Side Laundromat where she worked. He is also charged with two counts of attempted murder, stealing a gun and five robberies in Cleveland, Lorain and Sandusky. Co-defendant Maurice Harrison, 31, of East 118th Street, is also charged with two counts of attempted murder and five counts of robbery.Jackson faces the death penalty. He was free on bond when Pickryl, 38, of Lorain, was robbed and gunned down at the 24-hour coin laundry in the 3000 block of West 25th Street. The gunman entered Soap Opera Laundry about 4:30 a.m., a half-hour before Pickryl's shift was to end. He pointed a gun at her and demanded money. She handed him the $6 that was in her pocket. He grabbed her necklace. She jerked away and was shot in the head.

Soap Opera Laundry is located at 3028 W.25th Street (at Walton), almost one mile from Market Square Park, located at W.25th and Lorain. There will be a rally at this murder site, and we will walk back to Market Square Park after the conclusion of the rally. We need to show Commander Sulzer that the citizens of Ohio City care enough about our neighborhood to support this march. Commander Sulzer will provide us a police escort. Please contact me if you can join us. I am hoping for at least 20 residents to represent our neighborhood, but more would be better. Please consider joining Joe Cimperman and your neighbors for this march.
