A kitten would get eaten-alive, at my house... but a tough alley cat, from the streets... like Hill Billy, featured here... would stand a chance on Roxbury. I'm thinking about it, as we have mice, my wife loves cats (I can tolerate a cool one), and there are 100s of homeless cats at the APL (AKA Dog Pound) that need good homes. Even i can offer a better life for a cool cat than the pound - for a dog-smart, fast cat, that is.
I'm sure there are other realNEO readers who may offer even better homes for fast cats, slow cats, kittens... any of those furry warm quirky lion-wannabes that wonder dark homes at night seeking out prey... and sticking their butts in our paces while we sleep (I'm sure...!?!?).
Perhaps you may fit one more cat into your home and life... and even benefit from the good company...
This Saturday is the day to make that adoption, as the PD reports "Cats are free to good homes today and Saturday at the Cleveland APL; 560 cats and kittens need homes"... here's the story, with a link to an online database of available cats, to strum at your heartstrings... eight featured in the header of the day.
Perhaps I'll see you at the APL????
Cats are free to good homes today and Saturday at the Cleveland APL; 560 cats and kittens need homes [1]
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Animal Protective League's [2] shelter is full of cats and kittens, so the nonprofit group is offering cats for free.
There will be no adoption fee Friday and Saturday at 1729 Willey Ave. in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood. And cats and kittens not yet a year old can be adopted for $10. Get a second cat or kitten for $20.
"This issue is so critical, we are willing to do something drastic to raise awareness," director Sharon Harvey said, "and this is pretty drastic as it costs us an average of $200 to care for a cat at the APL, and we bring in hundreds each week."
All of the felines have been neutered, vaccinated and tested for disease, which would cost a pet owner about $300 at a veterinary clinic. All cats come with a collar, ID tag, travel box and free first veterinary examination. See photographs of some of the 560 homeless felines at clevelandapl.org. [3]
Here is the Press Release from the APL:
Cleveland APL Waives Adoption Fee for Adult Cats for Two Days Only!
The Cleveland Animal Protective League wants the community to know about the wonderful cats and kittens who are waiting for homes at the shelter.
Sure, many people think why get a cat or kitten from a humane society when I can get one for free from a friend, neighbor or family member? Well here’s why. At the Cleveland APL, every cat and kitten has been spayed or neutered, given their initial vaccines, treated for fleas and worms, and tested for feline leukemia, feline HIV, and heartworms, all of which will save an adopter nearly $300 in future care! So, for two days only – Friday, August 27th and Saturday, August 28th – the Cleveland APL will match the price of that “free” cat and waive the adoption fee for all of our fabulous felines who are one year old and up! Cats and kittens under one year of age will be available for an adoption fee of $10. The adoption fee for any second cat or kitten will be $20.
“This issue is so critical that we are willing to do something drastic to raise awareness – and this is pretty drastic as it costs us an average of $200 to care for a cat at the APL. We bring in hundreds of cats and kittens each week. All
healthy, friendly animals stay with us until we’ve found them a home – there is no limit on the time they may spend at the APL – but we can only keep doing that if animals are adopted as fast as new animals come in – that’s the
only way we can keep saving every life possible,” said Cleveland APL Executive Director, Sharon Harvey. While the APL is waiving the adoption fee over this two day period, it is not waiving the requirements for a good home. A good home is one that has thoughtfully considered all aspects of what adopting a pet means and is willing
to make the commitment to care for that pet through sickness and in health.Call (216) 771-4616 for more information or visit www.clevelandapl.org [4] if you would like to see photographs of animals who are available for adoption.
All cats will come with a collar, APL ID tag, travel box, helpful species-specific animal care information, 30 days of free health insurance, and a free initial veterinary exam. Regular adoption fees are $30 senior cats, $45 adult cats, $95 for kittens.
