Medal of Honor winner Dakota Meyer, from Kentucky,

Submitted by Oldroser on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 22:12.

Ambushed in a small village in Afghanistan, Cpl. Meyer watched as members of his unit were pinned down ahead of him. On the radio he heard their repeated pleas for artillery or an air strike that could save them. After about 45 minutes, when neither artillery rounds nor helicopters arrived, Meyer radioed his superiors for permission to try to rescue them in a gun-mounted armored vehicle. The answer was no.

Sleeping Bag Flag

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 12:59.

Does it desecrate the United States of America flag to sleep in it?

That's one question.

Then there is another question:

Does it desecrate the United States of America for a homeless person to store their sleeping bag flag bedding in a tree in a park during the day when the homeless person needs to be away from their park?

Anyway, just askin'

Our campaign is going GREAT, and everyone I get to speak with LOVES my ideas... I've been on the east side, west side... but we need a little more to WIN this election.  I often read of bloggers complaining about what has happened to them.  This is the time to do something about it.  If I don't win, you'll have another SIX YEARS to complain about the current situation.  HELP NOW.

Lorain's got art

Submitted by rnojonson on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 08:05.

It's been a while since I have shared my two cents, almost a year. It has flown by. Been busy though still not working a job. In house home health care of mom-n-law is full time occupation, for now. I did manage to join the new Lorain Arts Council. So in my free time I have been there.

The Lorain Arts Council has been in cahoots with the City of Lorain to stir up people traffic in the downtown area. Lorain does have some big yearly events but has need for smaller venues. We have secured a building and have a gallery. The gallery is called "LAC Gallery 737 and Art Center.

Coral Mushroom form and function

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 09/15/2011 - 10:42.

It is clear why the coral mushroom got its name - because the mushroom looks so similar to sea coral.

While the sea coral growns in water, the mushroom grows in air.

Why the similar architecture when the growth medium is liquid vs gas?

Living ON Main Street, USA

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 09/14/2011 - 15:40.

There is homelessness everywhere - in the US, in Canada, South America, Europe, etc. - and you see cardboard sleep matts and duffles waiting in unlikely spots for their owner's return.    Maybe the safest place for a homeless person to leave their few possesions during the day - is tucked behind a column right on the public sidewalk!

Dennis Kucinich - In a stunning development We Have a District! - Please fill out the volunteer form

Submitted by Quest-News-Serv... on Wed, 09/14/2011 - 13:51.

We have a district! The race is on! In a stunning development, the redistricting gave most of the Republican part of my old district to three incumbent Republican congressmen and left most of the Democratic part of my district intact. As a result, about 57% of registered Democrats in the new district come from my old district. With your help I clearly have a good chance to be able to continue to serve the people of Ohio and to remain a strong and outspoken voice for jobs, peace, clean water and clean air, education and civil rights.

Dead NASA Satellite Will Soon Plummet to Earth - between late September and October 2011

Dead_Satellite.jpg

NASA says the 20-year-old satellite will probably fall sometime between late September and October. Pieces of it could land anywhere in the six inhabited continents in a worldwide swath from south of Juneau, Alaska, to just north of the tip of South America. NASA scientists estimate a 1-in-3,200 chance a satellite part could hit someone. Most of it will burn up after entering Earth's atmospher. The 6-ton (5.4-metric ton) Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS) ran out of fuel in 2005 and will fall uncontrolled out of orbit.

Failure of United Way 211 service

Submitted by lmcshane on Wed, 09/14/2011 - 09:52.

Every day someone is faced with a medical emergency.  My situation occurred during the care of a loved one on a Saturday.  Try to find medical treatment on a Saturday or Sunday.

In Cuyahoga County, most public employees are trained to use the service 211.

http://www.211cleveland.org/ContactUs.aspx

My first reaction to the medical emergency, which I incorrectly assessed as not life threatening, was to find an urgent care or primary care facility that would take blood and properly assess the symptoms.

Gone Country... Getting Back to the Basics!

Submitted by ANGELnWard14 on Wed, 09/14/2011 - 00:38.

The hustle and bustle of the big city life is something to be thought about by home grown folks from down yonder. Those folks who come from good old fashioned wholesome homesteads and taught to be honest, respectable, and to be a "man of your word"...with a handshake that seals a deal....should truly reevaluate any considerations to submerse yourself in the big city life that often "consumes" your soul and devours your best qualities.
