Oldroser's blogA site that has information about the volcano closest to me (12-18 miles away, and I live high up)Submitted by Oldroser on Fri, 01/23/2015 - 16:32.
I hear this one, (Fuego) shooting off all the time. www.volcanodiscovery.com/guatemala/fuego.html It is south of Antigua, while I live north of Antigua, higher up, so I think I am fairly safe, barring the abnormal, which is always possible. Still, I feel safer here than in Cleveland. This is the first UNESCO Heritage (Colonial) City, and people come here from around the world. ( categories: )
Another earthquake, but here I only felt a small, short tremorSubmitted by Oldroser on Mon, 07/07/2014 - 23:56.
I didn't even bother getting up to go outside with the dogs, it was so small.

Followup to post on wearing hoodiesSubmitted by Oldroser on Sun, 05/04/2014 - 11:15.
A bit late, but I have been recuperating from wonderful visit from my sister, her husband and grand-daughter, where we ate out and shopped, shopped, shopped, which was what they wanted to do. And I have had a string of chronic migraines. ( categories: )
Hypocrite Hank Paulson is amazed neither party hasSubmitted by Oldroser on Mon, 03/17/2014 - 22:01.
done anything about the bubble that is building up (again.) Of course, he piously affirms that, as regards his role in bailing out the too-big-to- fail banks, no one knows how bad it could have been. These giants are now distributing enormous bonuses again and were not punished at all, or only had their hands slapped with an easily paid, though high, fine for rigging LIBOR, allowing a foreign exchange trader to lose a ton of money, and...oh, wait....no one is investigating the rigging of gold prices, nor prices of silver, either. Vinicio lived in New Jersey, where his parents and a brother still live, so he has excellent English, a big help to me. I am trying, but it is hard to rememlber the words. Italian from 50 years ago is coming back, which is understandable; and then they correct me. ( categories: )
Links to information about cost of living in AntiguaSubmitted by Oldroser on Wed, 02/12/2014 - 17:16.
As to my own costs, I just went to a nursery and bought 11 plants for around $22. They included a small lime tree, rosemary, lavender, calla lily, pansy, dill. antiguaguatemala.unwireme.com/antigua-guatemala-cost-of-living-update-fruits-and-veggies/ ( categories: )
Antigua is a UNESCO Heritage city, nothing must be changed, McDonalds has no golden archesSubmitted by Oldroser on Tue, 12/24/2013 - 23:38.
No buildings higher than two stories, streets are cobblestones. McDonald's had to conform, and their restaurant here (more expensive than US I guess, close to $5 for a Big Mac, although it sells as a combo with fries and soft drink. Simple sign outside.
Inside, the standard counter. Inside, beauty.

Sen. Brown voted to give away our right to bear arms to the U.N.Submitted by Oldroser on Sat, 09/21/2013 - 16:46.
This is an email from a friend. I knew about the narrow vote that saved this Article of the Constitution, but not who voted against it. I am surprised Sen. Udell of Colo. voted for and that our Sen. Portman did. Someone that knew him when he was in Elyria said Sen. Brown had "sold his soul." This is shameful, how can those who voted against our constitution right live with themselves. Although there are other rights being destroyed they need to do something about also.If it comes to a war vote, I certainly hope he does not voted for!! ( categories: )

War in Syria, could lead to WWIII, call your Senator!Submitted by Oldroser on Mon, 09/02/2013 - 10:33.
I called Congressman Brown’s Cleveland office, 216-522-7272, last Friday, and gave the staffer an earful as to my opinions about the possible strike in Syria, Benghazi, the Patriot Act, Homeland Security (and many other federal agencies) buying enormous quantities of hollow point bullets (which I later learned are against the Geneva Convention, yet a year or two ago, one of his staffers unconcernedly told me that yes, they had to get them, because they are supposed to practice with what they are going to use--against whom, us?), habeas co ( categories: )
Walk the Walk: If all who enjoyed Frank's parties would contribute the cost of their daily latte, his property would be safe.Submitted by Oldroser on Wed, 07/31/2013 - 02:45.
Much has been written here about the shameful way Frank Giglio has been treated and the illegal, not just crooked, way his property was stolen. Now, Lily writes that, although he is now on the monthly pay plan, there is a chance that he might also lose his mother's property. She herself is in terrific pain and so less able to do her usual, magnificant job of helping others.

Essentially, this is what I emailed Sen. Brown, NSA collected it, no doubt, so it is not newsSubmitted by Oldroser on Tue, 07/02/2013 - 16:04.
I am furious about what I read. How has our country changed so far, so fast, that this is happening? Our senators and representatives, as well as the government officials, and often the judges, are reprehensible. * * * * Quite some time ago, there were other whistleblowers about the extraordinary NSA surveillance and the immense building they are building in Utah to house it. I wrote you about it then and you said it had been forbidden. Well, they are doing it anyhow! What are you doing about it? Nothing I can see. I agree with those that ask for an investigation. Cimperman letter to TremontSubmitted by Oldroser on Mon, 04/01/2013 - 10:13.
TWDC sent me the following, addressed to "Tremont Stakeholder." Funny, when it came to ODOT's plans for the bridge in my front yard, adjacent to my property, I was not considered a stakeholder. And when I sent Joe the link to my last post about ODOT's dismissal of me, he just forwarded it on to ODOT. Big help Mr. Don't Do Anything Until Entire Community Approves was. However, he has been helpful at times and I know nothing about whoever will replace him, doesn't seem as though it will be Brian, whom I like better than many politicians. ( categories: )
What good is community approval when what was approved gets changed?Submitted by Oldroser on Mon, 03/04/2013 - 23:59.
Last year, Councilman Cimperman insisted that ODOT not proceed any further with plans for the Innerbelt Bridge until there was a community- wide meeting for us to consider and approve plans. The plans had previously been approved only by "stakeholders," which were composed of large corporations, no small companies included. I have always been irritated that I am not considered a stakeholder, even though the bridge is in my front yard. ( categories: )
