Back to the future again - electric cars

The Baker Electric Car Company made electric vehicles on the west side of Cleveland, Ohio at the turn of the 19th century.      Now, in 2015 - about a 115 years later, we are again seeing electric cars manufactured in the United States.

The Tesla (upper image) is manufactured in Freemont, California, and is trucked to points across the United States for distribution.    Weigning in at 7,500 lbs, only 6 Teslas can be hauled in the enclosed trailer.  Lighter weight conventional gas powered vehicles are lighter allowing car carriers to move 9 at a whack.    The Tesla is completely silent when it is under power.

But - isn't it a bit questionable that electric cars have been out of production for 100 years?   What's with that?
