Tax Day 2005: The Case for
Tax Reform

IRS Chief
Counsel addresses The City Club of
Cleveland on April
15.

CLEVELAND, OH—Donald L. Korb, chief counsel for
the Internal Revenue Service, will address the need for tax reform at
noon on Friday, April 15,
2005
, at The City Club of
Cleveland.

As chief law officer for the
IRS and an assistant general counsel
for the Treasury, Korb supervises about 1,500 attorneys. His office plays a
central role in the administration of the federal tax laws, and its attorneys
provide guidance on the correct legal interpretation of the tax laws, represent
the IRS in litigation and provide all other
legal support the IRS needs to carry out its mission of
serving American taxpayers.

Korb is a 1970 graduate of
John Carroll University.

Before his current position, Korb
was a partner in the taxation practice area of the law firm of Thompson Hine,
where he focused on handling taxpayer examinations, appeals, litigation, and
criminal tax, and other IRS issues. From 1984 to 1986, Korb
served as assistant to the Commissioner of Internal Revenue and was overall
coordinator of IRS involvement in the landmark Tax
Reform Act of 1986.

“We’re pleased to welcome a top
IRS official on a day dreaded by many
Americans: Tax Day, says City Club executive director James Foster. “He has
been instrumental in helping to reform the tax process, and we know he’ll have
much to reveal on future improvements.
