Orchidaceae is recognized as one of the most advanced families in the plant kingdom, due largely to its explosive speciation and the surprising survival strategies its members employ to occupy an extraordinary number of niches worldwide. Dr. Mariano Ospina-Hernandez, who has undertaken field explorations in Colombia and elsewhere, presents an overview of the Oncidiinae orchids of Colombia. He also discusses the growing interest in new development models that are more consistent with the protection of the environment and biodiversity.
