Spectrum: the Lockwood Thompson Dialogues is a new program created for the Cleveland Public Library by Cleveland Public Art.   The topic for the 2006 series is Cultural & Creative Migrations.  The April event will bring internationally acclaimed artist Shahzia Sikander together with moderator Kurt Andersen, host and co-creator of Public Radio International’s Studio 360, to discuss topics as diverse as cultural identity and the relationship of technology and globalization to the act of creating art.

This annual series will expose the diverse Cleveland population to public discussions that are unrehearsed, unexplored, and provocative.  All of the participants are prominent figures in their respective fields, though they may not immediately be related to Visual Arts in the traditional sense. Given the current political, societal, and artistic climate, the conversation is expected to be dynamic as well as illuminating.

The dialogue will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Stokes Auditorium in the Main Branch of the Library, located at East Sixth Street and Superior AvenuePatrons to this free, non-ticketed program will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis.   The library opens at 1 p.m. on Sundays and overflow viewing will be available.  We look forward to a lively discussion between Sikander and Andersen on the Library stage.
