I was astounded to receive the following email today from investment brokerage firm Raymond James in response to a message I sent one of their brokers...

Northeast Ohio is about to see an explosive, high profile, living, learning and enlightening force hit the scene and landscape, as area filmmakers, learning institutions and the public come together to create NEO Central - a bleeding-edge collaborative media arts center for NEO now and the future. The center will be based on like-minded initiatives around the world, and will provide shared film/media education, incubation, production, distribution, business and technology resources, and facilities, which are currently located in the historic landmark Gillota Building at 300 Central Viaduct (Carnegie) and will be expanded significantly as part of an area economic development plan. Mayor Eric Brewer on "Meet the Bloggers"Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 03/18/2006 - 15:56.
I was very excited to participate in a "Meet the Bloggers" discussion with East Cleveland mayor Eric J. Brewer, with George Nemeth and others, and it was a fantastic experience... what a great initiative Meet the Bloggers is... and the result is a thorough and revealing look into a man very few people really know, largely because the Plain Dealer has taken great efforts to present him as bad. Well, as far as anyone I know and I can tell, Brewer is good. If you care about truth in NEO, you REALLY MUST listen to Part 1 linked below, as Brewer discusses in detail his involvement in the indictment of former Mayor Emmanuel Onunwor... and in Part 3, don't miss Brewer's explanation for the poor treatment of him by the Plain Dealer - this is a major coup for "Meet the Bloggers". "We Media"Submitted by robataka on Wed, 11/16/2005 - 22:52.
I missed it, but apparently on the Lehrer-Mcneil Report, there was a section on increased individual participation in "journalism", or what they called "We Media". A large piece of the report was focused on wiki technology. Of course they mentioned Wikipedia. Apparently, wikipedia has over 2 billion hits per month. "Subscribers" to wikipedia outnumber the subscribers to the New York Times, Washington Post, the LA Times(and maybe one or two others) combined.

Rebecca Ryan – Generation X has spokenSubmitted by Ed Hauser on Tue, 10/04/2005 - 14:45.
On September 22nd, the City Club packed the room with Cleveland's "establishment" and "movement" leaders to listen to the voice of Generation X (born 1961-80). Rebecca Ryan held everyone's attention for an hour with her delivery that is straight to the point with a bit of humor. One of the points that she stressed is that the established leaders and new leaders need each other to make their communities more attractive and sustainable. She also highlighted that the "quality of place" is just as important as quality of jobs when GenXers decide to remain or relocate. ( categories: )

Lycos and meet-markets are latest thieves of personal identities, souls and dreamsSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 02/23/2005 - 21:54.
Social networks and personal identity and data aggregation companies are increasingly betraying the privacy, beliefs and rights of individuals, as recently demonstrated by ChoicePoint selling fraudulent access to 100,000s of individuals' private financial and other data, and described below with South Korean search service provider Lycos selling access to 1,000,000s of personal dating profiles aggregated from many private dating websites... which in fact is just a bait and switch operation for Lycos and dating site operators' to profit off lonely people. In another subversive way, Amazon.com aggregates individuals' buying preferences and opinions as part of their core business, and more recently is funding apparently unrelated social networking to learn your "43 Things". Results: ChoicePoint sold con-men 100,000+ identities - Lycos is selling personal profile data most people assume is held within trusting social communities - Amazon owns your preferences, hopes and dreams. Without regard to individuals' rights, Amazon, ChoicePoint and Lycos pursue only profits. Such abuse of individual rights by data aggregators and networking schemes is far from isolated, and will surface as one of the greatest new economy challenges of our time, defining who has the right to own and profit from the personal data of individuals. REALNEO believes this right should remain with individuals. What do you think... read on: ( categories: )

1,000,000s of patients, 100s of hospitals, entire countries, open source and $7.5 million in VC are right about medical ISSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 02/10/2005 - 21:38.
Below is a story about a company in LA that's doing exactly what companies and all medical service providers must do here - using open source VistA medical information management standards to transform healthcare. This is THE realization of the $125 million vision President Bush recently promoted here, and the understanding the Cleveland Clinic has embraced, and the certainty all other healthcare providers in NEO must recognize. Bottom line, if NEO's 100s of hospitals, clinics and medical centers and 1,000s of doctors get up to speed NOW, and collaborate, and turn their attention to excellence outside the operating room, and work strategically with enlightened IT professionals to embrace VistA region-wide, for the 4.4 million patients here, NEO will overnight become the global center of excellence in healthcare and the multi-billion-dollar medical information systems industry - for now, leadership, success, jobs and wealth go to some up-starts and VCs in LA. The following posting from Good Morning Silicon Valley surfaces a critical issue in social computing and in fact information technology - who owns your data. There is a social network called "43 things" that has attracted interest from people wanting to share their dreams and aspirations. The problem is that Amazon.com invested in 43 Things, so who owns whose dreams and aspirations? Read about this issue and the history of 43 things here, and decide for youself. REALNEO does not want to own your dreams but to make your aspirations more useful for you - read on about what Amazon has in mind for you... ( categories: )

(ICE) Information Communications Effectiveness now critical to political sustainabilitySubmitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 01/01/2005 - 23:09.
Information Communications Effectiveness (ICE) is now the key to governmental and political success. The benefit to citizens of effective government technology (IT) and telecommunications - from process improvements and knowledge management to ecommerce, communications, collaboration, individual empowerment and optimal economic development - is so powerful and transformational, it is inconceivable a less tech-savvy up-start could upstage an effective ICE-savvy incumbent. We have never seen an ICE-savvy politician surface in NEO, so all communities here are just waiting for information revolution.
