The Social Sciences Department of the Cleveland Public Library will hold their non-fiction book club discussion Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 12:00 PM in the Social Sciences Department (Sports Research Center).  We will discuss the book entitled, "The Glass Castle." (by Jeannette Walls).

"Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideas and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation.  Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children.  In the beginning, they lived like nomads, moving among Southwest desert towns, camping in the mountains.  Rex was a charismatic, brilliant man who, when sober, captured his children's imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and above all, how to embrace life fearlessly.  Rose Mary, who painted and wrote and could not stand the responsibility of providing for her family, called herself an "excitement addict."  As the dysfunction of the family escalated, Jeannette and her brother and sisters had to fend for themselves, supporting one another as they weathered their parents' betrayals and, finally, found the resources and will to leave home."

Please join us for an enlightened book discussion. Copies of the book may be picked up in Social Sciences Department and checked out in Lending Department. However, due to the popularity of the title, if you would like a copy held for you in our department, please contact us as soon as possible.

Feel free to bring your lunch. Coffee, water, and refreshments will be provided.  All are welcome!

As Always, thanks for your patronage!
