Ironically--the Healthline is functioning to bring people to the city as it was promised. The Plain Dealer and "Opportunity Corridor" steering commitee should experience world culture and actually ride it, sometime.
I rode it on Monday and actually felt hopeful for our city.
But--the rich have to get richer and the poor have to get poorer. This is how it is done in NEO. Sad.
The Ohio Department of Transportation and city of Cleveland will hold two more public meetings today (Thursday, Oct. 7) on the latest plans for the Opportunity Corridor.
Formal presentations begin 30 minutes after the meetings start. The times and locations are as follows:
• At 4 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., John Hay High School, 2075 Stokes Blvd.
A few years ago, I first posted my suspicions about the "Opportunity Corridor" and an attractive African-American woman showed up at my place of employment. She shared her story with me. Her father owned a property and the Clinic wanted it for a parking lot. The Clinic offered her father an insulting price for the property and he said no. The man had worked his whole life and had put his kids through college. The daughter was a degreed health professional working in California. She came home to help her ailing father fight the Clinic.
When the offer was not accepted her father's property began to get cited by the Building and Housing department. For peeling paint for lawn maintenance...and then, her father died. And, the building was condemned.
I asked the woman to write about it at REALNEO. Maybe, I imagined the whole encounter? There are a lot of events in history that get rewritten, because of faulty memory. So, if I am wrong and my memory of this event is wrong. I hope someone will straighten it out. Because, the memory is very real to me.

CDC leaders don't live here so they don't care about the cancer.
I think some rich Cleveland folks with cancer and other pollution-related death-sentences will get their revenge on TWDC and the other development corporation leaders, their politicians and their developers, when real health and environmental data for the region and neighborhoods starts rolling in.
Putting rich people in the shadows of steel mills and secret coal plants... what were they thinking?!?!?!
There is punishment for those who do not go along with the schemes and plans of community development. TWDC is sure one place to start, however, we must keep in mind that CDC's are there to do the Councilman's bidding and carry out his wishes.
Councilpeople often operate behind the scenes. They never come out and own up to pulling the strings using our tax dollars.
These sheep in wolf's cloting will kiss you on the cheek, take you out to lunch and even call you awesome until the first time you don't go along with backstabbing somebody they want to control and then you quickly become the "devil" referring to me of course.
I guess I'll just be a good devil because I'm not for sale. Not even for a good order of IHOP pancakes.
Councilwoman Fannie Lewis knew exactly what she was talking about. There is a "Judas Goat" among us.

First the neighborhood: your co-chairpersonship brought more people to the meetings and created a real dynamism that I hope continues. Having heated discussions are important and I have said a thousand times I wish more people would come to block clubs like Central Tremont, especially when you go to a meeting where the only people are the organizer, 2 residents, and a councilperson. Activity and organization and intensity are key ingredients to a neighborhood's success. I know you'll continue in a different venue and I look forward to visiting with you.

Apparently, I am the cancer that thwarted the Councilman's and TWDC's plan to "take over" the St. John Cantius Church parking lot. Which is not true, however, I do support Father Lucian's right to say "NO." According to powers that be, I am hindering the Tremont Community" from moving forward. We have been referred to as "Jerleen and her bunch."
In reflecting on our April 29, 2010, IHOP meeting discussions and after much thought, I would like to further state my position on the subject of the St. John Cantius Church Parking Lot and your request for a letter of support.
First and foremost, this is a matter that should be decided by Father Lucian and his parishioners.
As far as a letter of support, either personally or on behalf of the Old South Side Community Coalition, at this time, I am not in a position to endorse a letter that would support the church lot being used to relieve the bars/restaurants/nightclubs of their responsibility to provide adequate off street parking.
I must stand by my statement yesterday that it is Father Lucian's right to say no. The parishioner/members of OSS have made their positions clear and until such time as they say otherwise, we will firmly stand behind Father Lucian and his choice.
I find it not only disrespectful but inconsiderate and totally unacceptable that Father Lucian's decision cannot be revered. No means no and neither he nor his parishioners should be pressured or brow beaten into clearing up the parking mess that was not and is not of their making. St. John Cantius houses a school and daycare center which puts their parking lot in use until late hours in the evening so it is in use on a daily basis.
I left our meeting yesterday feeling very disappointed and saddened that in this community even a House of Worship cannot escape the wreckage of the many bars and nightclubs that our community leaders have endorsed and assisted in taking over our neighborhood.
Another disturbing fact was that after all the screaming Tom Leneghan has done about the need for parking, he received Storefront Renovation monies for the specific purpose of providing the Tree House with required parking. Trying to excuse his behavior in using the money to build a patio on the basis of some five year compliant rule is preposterous on all levels. To attempt to hold the churches in the community accountable for that type of idiocy is even more ludicrous.
As I indicated to you, I will put your proposal on the agenda for the next OSS meeting, however, if the parishioners/members say no then there will be no letter of support and that will be the end of it. You must also recognize that a no vote will result in a letter of opposition mailed out to all parties.
There are a number of OSS members whose families have been parishioners of St. John Cantius Church for more than seventy years. These long time residents and citizens are the ones whose voices need to be heard.
On a personal level, I cannot and will not betray the OSS membership by writing such a letter without their approval. That would be the ultimate sell out and brand me no less than a traitor.
Again, in reference to the Good Neighbor Agreements, I am no longer an advocate of those contracts since there is no enforceability and once these businesses get what they want, they ignore the promises that were made and the residents in the community are the ones that come up on the short end of the stick.
With regard to Olga's property surrounding the Tree House, just the fact that even after being sued once and being ordered by the court to pay monetary and punitive damages to the property owner, the Tree House owners blatant use and trespassing on her family's property speaks volumes.
It is not my intent to be disagreeable but this is one of the main reasons that residents in the Tremont community have lost faith and distrust for the Tremont West Development Corp. If they don't go along to get along they're deemed outsiders.
This matter all resulted from attempting to convice St. John Cantius Church (Father Lucian) into letting our the Church's parking lot to the bars and nightclubs for parking. Father Lucian says no way.
What has transpired is that even though Father says "NO," the Councilman and Sammy kept telling and even putting it in writing that they were close to working out a deal with the Church. Many parishioners kept say no, that is not right. Three of them kept complaining to me that the information put out by TWDC and Sammy was false.
At the March 30, 2010, Central Tremont Block Club meeting, a flyer was passed out stating that an agreement had finally been reached with the church - even though the Church Bulletin said exactly the opposite. It was also made clear that Sammy (also in writing) had stated at the TWDC Business Owners meeting that an agreement had been reached.
At a TWDC meeting, Sammy said that the matter with the church was a very sensitive issue. He also made it known that he and the councilman had gone above Father Lucian's head to the Diocese to force Father Lucian into using the parking lot.
Smelling a rat, I ask Father lucian about the agreement - he simply said, "it's not going to happen," and dropped the subject - we then spent 30 minutes talking about his cute little dog.
After that, it has been the hot topic among the powers that be that "Jerleen did the dirty deed of throwing a wrench in the spokes and upset the apple cart." I told Cimperman to look in his own backyard - Sammy is the one who put it out there that an agreement had been reached - which was an untruth.
Now, they need a way to explain the lie and I am supposed to be their lame duck.
I support Father Lucian's right to say no - which is something these people don't know how to respect. It's the same in every case - in this community - no one has the right to say "NO."

The story does not end there. This week I receive a very disturbing call that - The College Preparatory School, housed at St. John Cantius, had problems this week with parents picking up their students on Professor were receiving tickets for double parking, inpeding traffic, etc. While this is somewhat of a safety issue, the disturbing part was that our good Councilman had led the church staff to believe that I was the one who made the complaint and had gone further to say something like - if you sit down with the devil, you will have to dance with him.
#1, this type of situation is a problem all over the city of cleveland during school dismissal times. Rumor has it that they will be keeping the pressure on Father Lucian until he breaks and does their bidding.
I contacted the Commander, the school and the church clarifying that I would never make such a complaint - basically saying that it childish to pull such a stunt like using the educational system and children to to their advantage. Educating our children is the key to the future and waitng for parents to pick up their kids is no biggie.
I also ask what was the difference in parents stopping in the street to pick up students and West 14th Street where vehicles visiting the Tremont Farmer's Market impede the traffic, double park, park headed the wrong way, pulling out into on coming traffic, parked straddling the white line(with no lights/blinkers on at all), waiving traffic over into oncoming traffic on such a busy street where big trucks and busses travel?
Now, I understand there is a "behind closed doors" meeting scheduled for Monday, that was set up by Councilman Cimperman, between the school leader, the Commander and after insistence, Father Lucian and his assistant were included.
I decided to feature the preparatory school in the November issue of the Plain Press and ask if I could sit in on this "safety" meeting - but received no response from the Councilman. I understand from the Commander that it is Cimperman's meeting and I need his OK. I see some arm-twisting in play here.

It all coexists because of our weak unfree press. The "church" is losing membership and revenues - especially the Catholics with that nasty sex scandal stuff - so the "Church" needs and pays for good PR in the mainstream media - the Church controls lots of votes so has huge political power - especially as the media and politicians treat church leaders like God - so they all have everything to gain by playing nice politics with each other, as they all sleep in one bed - neighborhood residents are the least of any their concerns, as they all want to feast.
So expect the worst from the church, politicians, media and industry as they all are as one. I expect parking to be approved in the church lot and any hint of strongarm tactics will be covered-up. Case will be closed.
When a drunk leaves the Treehouse and gets in his car that was parked at the church and hits a church lady, expect that to be coveredup as well.
Did you notice there is a big steelmill belching poison into the air a few 1000 yards away... they cover that up too...
Amend Tremont's Constitution to state that no new restaurants or bars shall be opened. No more. Period. You might let the owner of one sell his "right" to be open to someone else.
At the Tremont West Development annual meeting would it not be possible to pass a resolution firing the board and the director?
TWDC's plan says that "A final recommendation that could be implemented, following accommodation of commercial parking, would be the requirement for residents to have permits for themselves and guests within specific zones on the surrounding blocks." I understand that this has been discussed, as it has been used in Little Italy. But evidently never implemented because the powers that be don't want it.
So what. Investigate how Little Italy set theirs up and proceed, pressing any public offical necessary to approve it.
BTW, any word on that meeting? Sunshine law evidently didn't apply there, eh?

Well, I don't know that the owner would want one of these type of meetings at her place....She likes things the way they are and doesn't like rocking boats. She's a wonderful lady....but they taught her a quick lesson about working with us at REALNEO....and she appears to enjoy her life and business without this type of political activity....
Maybe Massimo will help us to make it comfortable for a HILLBILLY FUNDRAISER....It's pretty affordable there.... believe it or not... But, it was just an idea!

Obvious Opportunity Corridor Solution - Charge a toll
$1 each way - EZPay and online tolls like in Austin - people who are rich and in a hurry get nice new roads but pay for them - 30,000 cars a weekday and say 10,000 each weekend day each way adds up and would pay for the road, in which case it would be workable.
For the public to pay for this is stupid. This is a driveway to lots of institutions that already get off without paying property taxes, and pollute us with a coal plant and burning medical waste, and just taxed is for a fucking industry meeting hall... enough charity for the fucking "charities".
Time for the rich doctors to pay more of their toll around town.

The Ohio Department of Transportation and city of Cleveland will hold two more public meetings today (Thursday, Oct. 7) on the latest plans for the Opportunity Corridor.
Formal presentations begin 30 minutes after the meetings start. The times and locations are as follows:
• At 4 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., John Hay High School, 2075 Stokes Blvd.

A few years ago, I first posted my suspicions about the "Opportunity
Corridor" and an attractive African-American woman showed up at my place of employment. She shared her story with me. Her father owned a property and the Clinic wanted it for a parking lot. The Clinic offered her father an insulting price for the property and he said no. The man had worked his whole life and had put his kids through college. The daughter was a degreed health professional working in California. She came home to help her ailing father fight the Clinic.
When the offer was not accepted her father's property began to get cited by the Building and Housing department. For peeling paint for lawn maintenance...and then, her father died. And, the building was condemned.
I asked the woman to write about it at REALNEO. Maybe, I imagined the whole encounter? There are a lot of events in history that get rewritten, because of faulty memory. So, if I am wrong and my memory of this event is wrong. I hope someone will straighten it out. Because, the memory is very real to me.
How can remember every citizens' story when the facts begin to..
blur and incessantly speak the exact same rhythm of actions....
1) CDC's do long term planning, targeting development projects and marking their territory...

TARGETING THOSE WHO DO NOT GO ALONG TO GET ALONG
There is punishment for those who do not go along with the schemes and plans of community development. TWDC is sure one place to start, however, we must keep in mind that CDC's are there to do the Councilman's bidding and carry out his wishes.
Councilpeople often operate behind the scenes. They never come out and own up to pulling the strings using our tax dollars.
These sheep in wolf's cloting will kiss you on the cheek, take you out to lunch and even call you awesome until the first time you don't go along with backstabbing somebody they want to control and then you quickly become the "devil" referring to me of course.
I guess I'll just be a good devil because I'm not for sale. Not even for a good order of IHOP pancakes.

I wanted to thank you most sincerely from the bottom of my heart for all you have done for the neighborhood and for me personally.
First the neighborhood: your co-chairpersonship brought more people to the meetings and created a real dynamism that I hope continues. Having heated discussions are important and I have said a thousand times I wish more people would come to block clubs like Central Tremont, especially when you go to a meeting where the only people are the organizer, 2 residents, and a councilperson. Activity and organization and intensity are key ingredients to a neighborhood's success.
I know you'll continue in a different venue and I look forward to visiting with you.
Secondly, I have learned a lot from you as a citizen and a writer, and yes a friend. What I appreciate most is your candor and lets-get-it-done attitude. You remind me so much of the people I grew up with on East 74 and St Clair Avenue, real and caring and tough and true believers in this Immortal City. Your emails to me about your life, your journey, your family are some of the most beautifully written and heart felt letters I have ever read.

If you all see a fireball on the run - it's most likely me. From what I understand, the plan is to evict me from the "hood."

Apparently, I am the cancer that thwarted the Councilman's and TWDC's plan to "take over" the St. John Cantius Church parking lot. Which is not true, however, I do support Father Lucian's right to say "NO." According to powers that be, I am hindering the Tremont Community" from moving forward. We have been referred to as "Jerleen and her bunch."
LETTER TO COUNCILMAN CIMPERMAN THAT BROKE APART OUR HAPPY UNION
EGG ON EVERYBODY'S FACE AND THEY NEED A SCAPE GOAT
This matter all resulted from attempting to convice St. John Cantius Church (Father Lucian) into letting our the Church's parking lot to the bars and nightclubs for parking. Father Lucian says no way.
What has transpired is that even though Father says "NO," the Councilman and Sammy kept telling and even putting it in writing that they were close to working out a deal with the Church. Many parishioners kept say no, that is not right. Three of them kept complaining to me that the information put out by TWDC and Sammy was false.
At the March 30, 2010, Central Tremont Block Club meeting, a flyer was passed out stating that an agreement had finally been reached with the church - even though the Church Bulletin said exactly the opposite. It was also made clear that Sammy (also in writing) had stated at the TWDC Business Owners meeting that an agreement had been reached.
At a TWDC meeting, Sammy said that the matter with the church was a very sensitive issue. He also made it known that he and the councilman had gone above Father Lucian's head to the Diocese to force Father Lucian into using the parking lot.
Smelling a rat, I ask Father lucian about the agreement - he simply said, "it's not going to happen," and dropped the subject - we then spent 30 minutes talking about his cute little dog.
After that, it has been the hot topic among the powers that be that "Jerleen did the dirty deed of throwing a wrench in the spokes and upset the apple cart." I told Cimperman to look in his own backyard - Sammy is the one who put it out there that an agreement had been reached - which was an untruth.
Now, they need a way to explain the lie and I am supposed to be their lame duck.
I support Father Lucian's right to say no - which is something these people don't know how to respect. It's the same in every case - in this community - no one has the right to say "NO."

The story does not end there. This week I receive a very disturbing call that - The College Preparatory School, housed at St. John Cantius, had problems this week with parents picking up their students on Professor were receiving tickets for double parking, inpeding traffic, etc. While this is somewhat of a safety issue, the disturbing part was that our good Councilman had led the church staff to believe that I was the one who made the complaint and had gone further to say something like - if you sit down with the devil, you will have to dance with him.
#1, this type of situation is a problem all over the city of cleveland during school dismissal times. Rumor has it that they will be keeping the pressure on Father Lucian until he breaks and does their bidding.
I contacted the Commander, the school and the church clarifying that I would never make such a complaint - basically saying that it childish to pull such a stunt like using the educational system and children to to their advantage. Educating our children is the key to the future and waitng for parents to pick up their kids is no biggie.
I also ask what was the difference in parents stopping in the street to pick up students and West 14th Street where vehicles visiting the Tremont Farmer's Market impede the traffic, double park, park headed the wrong way, pulling out into on coming traffic, parked straddling the white line(with no lights/blinkers on at all), waiving traffic over into oncoming traffic on such a busy street where big trucks and busses travel?
Now, I understand there is a "behind closed doors" meeting scheduled for Monday, that was set up by Councilman Cimperman, between the school leader, the Commander and after insistence, Father Lucian and his assistant were included.
I decided to feature the preparatory school in the November issue of the Plain Press and ask if I could sit in on this "safety" meeting - but received no response from the Councilman. I understand from the Commander that it is Cimperman's meeting and I need his OK. I see some arm-twisting in play here.
PUBLIC RESOURCES ARE USED FOR THIS TARGET ENFORCEMENT
Look, TARGET POLICE ENFORCEMENT IS DRIVEN BY THE COUNCILMAN in areas....
Call McGrath and ask him to investigate WHITE COLLAR RICO VIOLATIONS and ask MR. Cimperman if he wants to play hardball on this???
CITIZENS can protest such retaliatory practices....BUT EDUCATING FATHER LUCIAN and his CONGREGATION and the PARENTS at large is also a much more steadfast way of approaching it...
Maybe he won't let you sit in....but then again, maybe the video cameras of the news should be watching these backroom politics....
They are so tremendously good at INTIMIDATING the local leadership (CHURCH) by STEERING them to make the decisions they want....reminding them of who's the big man..(CIMPERMAN)...and all of his avenues of reproach..... What's next? Will they take away tax abatements?
Call the FBI on Cimperman and file a complaint on the charge of RICO act violations.... TREMONT didn't get this way without his cooperation!
HECK, while you are at it...START A RECALL and PUT CIMPERMAN ON THE HOT SEAT for a brief moment!
IT's time that they see what it's like having the law used against themselves for illegal, unethical, and self serving purposes....They have been doing this kind of crap against the citizens for generations.... illegally!

The "church" is losing membership and revenues - especially the Catholics with that nasty sex scandal stuff - so the "Church" needs and pays for good PR in the mainstream media - the Church controls lots of votes so has huge political power - especially as the media and politicians treat church leaders like God - so they all have everything to gain by playing nice politics with each other, as they all sleep in one bed - neighborhood residents are the least of any their concerns, as they all want to feast.
So expect the worst from the church, politicians, media and industry as they all are as one. I expect parking to be approved in the church lot and any hint of strongarm tactics will be covered-up. Case will be closed.
When a drunk leaves the Treehouse and gets in his car that was parked at the church and hits a church lady, expect that to be coveredup as well.
Did you notice there is a big steelmill belching poison into the air a few 1000 yards away... they cover that up too...

Amend Tremont's Constitution to state that no new restaurants or bars shall be opened. No more. Period. You might let the owner of one sell his "right" to be open to someone else.
At the Tremont West Development annual meeting would it not be possible to pass a resolution firing the board and the director?
TWDC's plan says that "A final recommendation that could be implemented, following accommodation of commercial parking, would be the requirement for residents to have permits for themselves and guests within specific zones on the surrounding blocks." I understand that this has been discussed, as it has been used in Little Italy. But evidently never implemented because the powers that be don't want it.
So what. Investigate how Little Italy set theirs up and proceed, pressing any public offical necessary to approve it.
BTW, any word on that meeting? Sunshine law evidently didn't apply there, eh?

She's a wonderful lady....but they taught her a quick lesson about working with us at REALNEO....and she appears to enjoy her life and business without this type of political activity....

More "Opportunity Corridor" Propaganda sessions
I am grateful that John Kasich was protective of our resources in vetoing substitute House Bill 231 and I plan on writing him to commend the decision.

$1 each way - EZPay and online tolls like in Austin - people who are rich and in a hurry get nice new roads but pay for them - 30,000 cars a weekday and say 10,000 each weekend day each way adds up and would pay for the road, in which case it would be workable.
For the public to pay for this is stupid. This is a driveway to lots of institutions that already get off without paying property taxes, and pollute us with a coal plant and burning medical waste, and just taxed is for a fucking industry meeting hall... enough charity for the fucking "charities".
