EPA Expands Detection After Low Radiation Found In Mass.

NEW YORK (CBS 2) — Very low levels of radioactive material have been detected on the east coast, the Environmental Protection Agency confirmed.
“We want to make clear that there is no health impact,” said John Auerbach, Public Health Commissioner of Massachusetts.
The increased levels of radiation were detected in rainwater collected in Boston and federal environmental officials were urging Americans not to panic, Demetra Ganias reports.
The EPA issued a statement saying “these detections were expected and the levels detected are far below levels of public-health concern.”
Radioiodine 131 from the quake-stricken nuclear facility has also been detected in several western states and Pennsylvania as well.
It’s an isotope with a relatively short half-life. It’s radioactivity decreases within days, meaning it becomes less dangerous more quickly.

Massachusetts state officials were telling residents to keep drinking water from the tap. “We want to emphasize that the sampling results indicate no risk to the state drinking water supplies,” Auerbach said.
The idea was that rainwater was diluted in bodies of water long before it ends up in our drinking water. The EPA expected the higher radiation levels to be temporary.
However, the agency said it’s collecting samples at 100 sites across the country and taking steps to increase that nationwide monitoring.

i felt a burning in my throat way back of my throat that i never felt before - i felt like some live enity was moving around and attempting to burn and or eat away at my throat and this wasn't harsh - it was a suttle almost undetectable feeling that lasted a few minutes as i was out for about one hour today - sunday march 27, 2011 and yesterday also - i belive this enity is nuclear radiation from japan and also the sun explosions - also my skin is like milded sun burn -

Radioactive Iodine-131 in rainwater sample near San Francisco was 18,100% above federal drinking water standard

UCB Rain Water Sampling Results, University of California, Berkeley, Department of Nuclear Engineering:
Iodine-131 was measured in a rainwater sample taken on the roof of Etcheverry Hall on UC Berkeley campus, March 23, 2011 from 9:06-18:00 PDT. The 3 Liters of rainwater collected contained 134 Becquerels of Iodine for an average of 20.1 Becquerel per liter, which equates to 543 Picocuries per liter .
The federal drinking water limit for Iodine-131 is 3 Picocuries per liter, putting the rainwater sample at 18,100% above the federal drinking water limit.
