TURKEY BLASTER BBQSubmitted by Jeff Buster on Tue, 11/24/2009 - 19:45.
What you see is a hybrid concoction of a Mexican chiminea (bottom) a clay tile chimney liner (middle) and a junk BBQ (top). Like Cape Canaveral, the launch pad requires access equipment to reach the payload capsule.
The objective is to take the conventional oven roasted bird out doors for a wood powered LAUNCH.
This image is from a test BLAST with a chicken in a roasting pan put into the hollow innards of the junk BBQ.
Everything in the pan (potatoes, whole small onions, carrots, apples, and the whole chicken cooked fine in 1 hour 45 minutes on maple fuel in the chiminea.
The only problem encountered was too much direct heat through the chimney flue tile onto the bottom of the roasting pan. This created carbon loading on the floor of the roaster. We all know that carbon needs to be captured.
For Turkey day a brick or other ceramic heat deflector will be added under the roasting pan.
LIFT OFF and Bon Appetit!
