Len Barker Baseball Day Home Opener- Friday, April 10th

I happen to love baseball and the girly version of the game, softball--so I am excited about opening day in Cleveland.  Let's put aside controversy and just thrill in the love of the game.

For the first time, Cleveland Public Library will have a featured event to celebrate the joy of baseball and springtime:

The Cleveland Public Library is hosting the first-ever, family-friendly Cleveland Indians Home Opener program.

Baseball Great Len Barker will speak to fans at the Main Library in the Louis Stokes Wing Auditorium on Friday, April 10, 2009-- 1:30-3:00 p.m..

From Wikipedia:

Barker's most notable accomplishment as a major league pitcher occurred on May 15, 1981 as a member of the Cleveland Indians. On a cold, damp night in Cleveland, Barker pitched the tenth official perfect game in the history of major league baseball, defeating the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-0 [1]. Originally reported as the ninth perfect game in major league baseball history (the league later changed the criteria to move Barker's outing to the tenth perfect game), the final out of the game was a flyout caught by Rick Manning in short center field.

Barker's perfect outing, one of only seventeen in the history of Major League baseball, is the last no-hitter thrown by an Indian [2] and remains one of the fondest memories in Cleveland sports history. [3]

Enjoy face painting for kids, games, popcorn, and displays of memorabilia from our vintage baseball collection (one of the best in the country!).  Game starts at 4:00 p.m.  Call 216-623-2860 for more information.
