Dr. William C. Dement: Pioneer in Sleep Medicine and Dreams

William C. Dement, M.D., Ph.D., is the Lowell W. and Josephine Q. Berry Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the the Stanford University School of Medicine, and the Director of the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic and Research Center. Dr. Dement helped discover and described REM sleep and its relationship with dreaming. He has been a strong public policy advocate through his work as the chairman of the National Commission on Sleep Disorders created by the U.S. Congress. He will speak at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at the Aitken Auditorium at The Cleveland Institute of Art. His lecture is part of Dreamweaver: The Science and Culture of Escape, Fantasy, and Reverie, a series of exhibitions and events presented by The Cleveland Institute of Art.
