SPECIAL GUEST: Cleveland AFTRA President - Mike Kraft & Cleveland Aftra Executive Director Cathy Nowlin

TOPIC: Hiring Union Talent in your short or feature film for low $ or even free.
Up for discussion will be the AFTRA and SAG contracts under which you can produce independent films, with the focus being on how you can use AFTRA contracts to your advantage, including the ability to defer pay to actors, mix union and non-union cast members and/or negotiate rates on an individual basis with AFTRA performers. We will also discuss the differences between AFTRA and SAG contracts and what it means to you as an independent/student film producer.

About Mr. Kraft: Mike Kraft has been a full-time professional performer since 1981. He is a member of both AFTRA and SAG, and is currently the President of the Cleveland AFTRA local. He has appeared in well over 2000 industrial training films, hundreds of television and radio commercials and numerous live performances, hosts distance learning events for General Motors and Volkswagen and moderates live interactive webcasts for Ernst & Young. He has also appeared in independent and feature films.

Cathy Nowlin is in her eleventh year as the Executive Director of Cleveland AFTRA. Previous to this, she has worked for the local since 1979 in a variety of positions including Assistant Executive and Freelance Administrator
