The Future of Urban Farming in Cleveland

How are Clevelanders making their city more healthy, wealthy and resilient through urban agriculture and how is the City of Cleveland supporting these efforts?

Efforts in Cleveland to reuse vacant land in innovative ways have recently garnered national attention. At the center of much of this attention has been the Re-Imagining Cleveland program, a collaboration between the City of Cleveland and local community development organizations to fund and support over 50 new urban farms, community gardens and greening projects on city-owned vacant land.

Join us on Monday, April 5th - and on the First Monday of each month - as we re-imagine the future of Cleveland through urban agriculture. Together we'll learn more about these exciting projects and explore how urban agriculture can help catalyze the development of a thriving local food economy and culture in Northeast Ohio.

At this event we'll hear about the background and future of the Re-Imagining Cleveland program from Lilah Zautner, the Re-Imagining Cleveland Program Manager at Neighborhood Progress Inc.

Also joining us will be Robert Brown, Director of the Cleveland City Planning Commission, who will give a short presentation on the City of Cleveland's efforts to encourage urban agriculture through planning, policy and zoning changes.

Then we'll learn more about a few of these innovative projects first-hand from the leaders who are putting them to work:

Barbara Strauss - Ecovillage Produce

Mansfield Frazier - The Vineyards of Chateau Hough

Virginia Houston and Peter McDermott - Urban Growth Farms

Jamel Humphrey - African Village Community Garden

and more!
