So You Want to Be a Farmer?
Local Food Cleveland Network Event
Exploring the Opportunities in Entrepreneurial Farming

Date: Monday, February 1, 2010
Time: 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Location: Great Lakes Brewing Company Tasting Room
General Price: Free

Description:
  • How many new farmers will we need to feed the 4 million people of Northeast Ohio?
  • Can farming really provide a living? What does it take to be successful?
  • What are some first steps for those who think farming might be for them?
Wanna-be farmers, those already farming, and everyone interested in the future of food in Northeast Ohio are invited to join the Local Food Cleveland Network on February 1st as we learn about the spectrum of opportunities in entrepreneurial farming and suggest concrete action steps to get started. This event is the first in a three-part series focused on the vision of 10,000 New Farmers in 10 Years.

Guiding us will be a panel of both local farmers - who will speak to the challenges and rewards of their journeys - as well as leaders from local organizations who are training new farmers, creating new markets for local food, and working to reform food and farm policy.

Panelists currently include:

  • Morgan Taggart - Ohio State University Extension
  • Jessica Levine - Wonder City Farm & Schmidt Family Farm
  • Cindy Bischof-Steinbrick - Basil and Beyond
  • Darwin Kelsey - The Countryside Conservancy

ATTENTION FARMERS: Will you have volunteer opportunities or visiting hours on your farm in 2010? Please post them here! At this event we`d like to connect those interested with tours, internship and volunteer opportunities at local farms.
