Upon his retirement from
active military duty, including 13 years overseas and four combat tours,
General Barry R. McCaffrey was the most highly decorated four-star general in
the U.S. Army. As Commander-in-Chief of the United States Armed Forces Southern
Command, he coordinated national security operations in Latin America. He served
as assistant to General Colin Powell, and supported the Chairman as the JCS
advisor to the Secretary of State and the U.S. Ambassador to the United

General McCaffrey currently
is the Bradley Distinguished Professor of International Security Studies at the
U.S. Military Academy, and is president of his own consulting firm. He serves
as a national security and terrorism analyst for NBC News and a commentator on
national security issues for Armed Forces Journal.

Following his unanimous
Senate confirmation in 1996, General McCaffrey served as a member of the
President’s Cabinet and the National Security Council for drug-related issues.
He was the Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy
until January 2001.
