Submitted by Quest-News-Serv... on Sat, 07/23/2011 - 23:47.

A group of researchers working at the Human Genome Project indicate that they made an astonishing scientific discovery: They believe so-called 97% non-coding sequences in human DNA is no less than genetic code of extraterrestrial life forms.

Who will "apply breaks" during U.S. default

Submitted by Lee Batdorff on Sat, 07/23/2011 - 21:05.

Folks, this might be a very special week, starting Monday July 25th, 2011.

Many say that we, as a civilization, are looking into the depths of a coming deep depression brought on by an actual default of the U.S. Federal government.  Even just the simple continuing disagreement between the right-controlled U.S. House and the ever-so-centering President Obama about what to do into the next week could prompt a falling investment bond rating.

From what I've been reading, a falling bond rating for the U.S. is a falling financial rating for every borrower in the U.S.

Youth is Anna

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 23:22.

On a train (steam) out of Rock Island Anna was a passenger - like the rest of us...in the 100 degree heat.

Later that evening over red wine I met her parents at a dinner party and Anna was there too...

(just trying to get this blog together - so far it's fiction)

Remembering some of the legends of REALNEO to date...

Submitted by ANGELnWard14 on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 15:57.

Realneo brought some of Northeast Ohio's most engaged and amazingly brilliant activists together and incited more than enough community activism over the last couple years to keep the feds busy for the endurance. I have been blessed to know, interact, and learn from so many of these people including Lily Miller, Norm Roulet, Debra Shephard and many more... Heck, without REALNEO, I probably never would have heard of ROLDO...but reading his work has been truly stimulating.

Sun-Times closing 12 yr old, 100 million printing plant

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 07/21/2011 - 08:05.

The Chicago Tribune reports that their unionized printing press will close this fall.

400 union workers will be out of work.

Next question: will the plant be dismantled and sold elsewhere? or has the internet made this very new (12 years old) plant obsolete - scrap?

Is the closing the result of decreasing demand for print media or a means of removing the union?   Probably both.

Geology 101 - Sandstone patterns

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 07/21/2011 - 05:53.

In the North East Ohio area Berea sandstone was used for many building projects, including all the sidewalk slabs in many communities.   The quarries were massive operations.

The Italians have a few flourishes that other cultures do not have.   Gelato ice is one of those flourishes. This display at Gigi Gelateria is in a freezer  with a glass top and faces the public sidewalk in the North End, Boston, Massachusetts. - Every passerby has to look - and resist or buy.

Imagine Living Without....

Submitted by ANGELnWard14 on Tue, 07/19/2011 - 23:43.

Imagine living without a sense of community...

Imagine living without a HD TV....no cable, no converter box, and no signal to the world.

Imagine living without transportation....

Imagine earning barely enough to afford rent, utilities, food, and minimal basics.

Imagine living without excursions like Cedar Point, expensive restaurants, or annual vacations.

Imagine not knowing your next door neighbor's name.

Dates of upcoming O.D.O.T. Question & Answer meetings

Submitted by Oldroser on Tue, 07/19/2011 - 01:57.

Since I had only one day notice of the meeting, I complained and found that other people had had earlier notices and Sammy Catania had provided Henry Senyak with a list of dates. I suggested they be put in the newsletter. Well, the date it has to go to the printer doesn't allow for that. Well, print the whole list! Fortunately, the helpful Public Information Officer sent me the list, and here it is! I hope in the future to not be the only one raising questions/from the board.

Kathy Wray Coleman, other citizens, address media re: Cleveland Heights kids curfew

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 07/18/2011 - 19:21.
In a light drizzle at the front door of Cleveland Heights City Hall this evening Kathy Wray Coleman and others addressed the 5 or so commercial news camera crews who were in attendance.   This curfew story obviously must have strong commercial news potential. Cleveland Heights City Hall is located on the Severance Mall campus at the corner of Taylor and Mayfield. There was no police presence, and those 15 or so citizens who attended were a pretty even mix of white and black.

Zack Reed and Jeff Johnson and Norman Edwards ask for # Black labor hours on MEDCON

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sun, 07/17/2011 - 17:26.

Norm Edwards sees it my way when he states:

that he believed that the entire contract for Medmart was illegal and that it was done purposely to keep out blacks out.

I don't think the MEDCON tax brain child of Tim Hagan was concerned or cared about who worked on the site either which way.  I think the Medcon county wide tax was Tim Hagan's Jim Dimora moment.

Do it in Public, and no one will notice.

Try to grab a tiki hut, and it will be all over the news...

The truth shall set us free.

Gun Study in NEO

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sat, 07/16/2011 - 22:55.

This is a plastic water pistol I found in the park.   Looked like the lawnmower ran over it.

What was in the head of the designer...was it molded in China...did a parent buy it for their kid...

Pretty sophisticated color scheme.

So I laid the broken pieces out on a white matt for this study.

A Great Lakes "Thanks" to the Plain Dealer!

Submitted by Lee Batdorff on Sat, 07/16/2011 - 18:16.

Dear editors of the Plain Dealer:

Thank you for the continuing focus the Plain Dealer has been giving to the
controversial, and potentially very damaging to all of the Great Lakes region,
piece of legislation that passed both the Ohio House and Senate—and especially
for your “11th hour” editorial leading Ohio governor John Kasich, and all readers,
back to his utterance of support for the Great Lakes last year on the campaign trail.
