Sleeping Populace

Hi...I just joined this group.  I'm at work.  It's Saturday.  Not too many people in the store right now.  I sell and install stuff for vehicles.  We lift and lower them, add exhausts, chips, air intakes, steps, lids, shells, wheels, tires, etc.  When my mind is not occupied on this it switches to the big question which can never be answered.  Why are some people awake to what is happening in our world, and some asleep?  When I try to nudge someone with some startling piece of information it's as if they are drugged!  It seems there is no in-betw

SAM MILLER IS THE FUNNIEST MAN IN TOWN

Submitted by Roldo on Thu, 01/21/2010 - 20:19.

My best laugh on a trip out West for warm air came when I read on line Sam Miller’s tribute to himself as part of Cleveland Magazine’s take on Cleveland’s most powerful people.

With this news The Times to Charge for Frequent Access to Its Web Site, we may need to begin including a warning - "This click will take you to a NYTimes article. If you are at or near your monthly limit of free access, think twice before clicking".

How much would you pay to access a PD story on cleveland.com?

Ah, the times they are a changin'!

Starting in January 2011, a visitor to NYTimes.com will be allowed to view a certain number of articles free each month; to read more, the reader must pay a flat fee for unlimited access. Subscribers to the print newspaper, even those who subscribe only to the Sunday paper, will receive full access to the site without any additional charge.

Executives of The New York Times Company said they wanted to create a system that would have little effect on the millions of occasional visitors to the site, while trying to cash in on the loyalty of more devoted readers. But fundamental features of the plan have not yet been decided, including how much the paper will charge for online subscriptions or how many articles a reader will be allowed to see without paying.

Richard Florida, "I take it back."

Submitted by Susan Miller on Wed, 01/20/2010 - 14:12.

Phew, the Cleve Orch dodged a bullet… Now we can sleep knowing that Severance Hall will not become an abandoned and empty place for scrappers to loot. But right around the same time, we can read about Richard Florida’s admission that some cities are just too damaged to play anymore. You can bet Cleveland is on his list. His solution? Move away… run, run, run as fast as you can.

Nighttown, at 45 - One of the Best Jazz Clubs in the World, and Home of The Press Club of Cleveland

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 01/20/2010 - 04:00.

I met an old friend for drinks at Nighttown, the other night. Nighttown is definitely one of my old real NEO friends' favorite East Side places to gather, and has been for decades, for many good reasons... starting with a great owner (in the video above) and staff, excellent, consistent food, and the world's best jazz. Open every day, from 11 AM-2AM, the ambiance is as good as it gets, as well... for a club inspired by the Red Light District of Dublin.

Interesting, Nighttown is also the home of The Press Club of Cleveland, The Press Club's Hall of Fame and Visual Archives... lots of related information is linked here... the video above introduces the Press Club Hall of Fame, hosted at Nighttown, which includes our own new media idol Roldo... since 2004.
