The nonprofit selected Civic to build on the land bank-owned parcel across the street from Dunbar Elementary School because of its long experience in city housing development. The land bank had the site because it owned a house with a storefront in front of it because the property was tax-delinquent.

The prior property was razed, Roberts said, to offer a modern design attractive to current residents with features such as rooftop decks that have energy-efficient operations.

David Sharkey, a Civic principal and president of the Progressive Urban Real Estate firm, said the venture provided access to a site in an attractive area and allowed it to contribute its expertise to the undertaking.
