Videophone Help

Submitted by marccanter on Mon, 03/23/2009 - 00:48.

Wouldn't it be great if a community could use videophone technology - like what you can get for free from Skype - to help each other?

If someone had a question - all they'd have to do is videophone up somebody and ask an answer.

The idea is that experts can support newbies in almost any area - and vice versa.

So if you were working on a home repair job or winterizing and you needed an experts advice, you could find him/her.

And if they needed help in creating a web site or balancing your companies books - they could help you.

Lou Pumphrey in uniform carrying Flag of Peace in 2009 St. Patrick's Day Parade

I was surprised to see a letter to the editor printed and on-line in the Sunday, March 22, 2009, Cleveland Plain Dealer - "A flag of peace is found out of order at the St. Patrick's Day parade", by Lou Pumphrey. It starts: "Being half-Irish (on me mudder's side), off work on St. Patrick's Day and knowing the day would be sunny and warm, I vaguely considered donning my 41-year-old U.S. Army dress uniform and joining the St. Paddy's Day parade downtown, carrying my flag." But there was no accompanying picture of Lou or the Flag of Peace.

In the print edition, there was a file photo of a parade, but it was hardly relevant.

CLEVELAND INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL: FILM REVIEWS, DAY ONE

Submitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Fri, 03/20/2009 - 23:44.

My first pick, at 11:45 am, was Dancers, by the Danish director Pernille Fischer Christensen.

Her second feature length film, it is part of the CIFF series titled  “Scandinavian Screenings.”

Dancers plays again Sunday March 22 at 9:20 pm. I highly recommend this film!

According to the unnamed, our future is in their hands

Who imploded the economy? Many critics point to a crucial role played by traders of exotic unregulated financial instruments which are understood by few people. Currently most of these traders at American Insurance Group remain unnamed while receiving bonuses for “safely” dismantling an investment system turned doomsday machine which happens to hold the fate of the world’s financial system.

Small Business Lecture Series

Submitted by BusinessDept on Wed, 03/18/2009 - 09:22.

The Cleveland Public Library (CPL) Collinwood Branch will be holding a two part lecture series focusing on small business ownership. The purpose of the Small Business Lecture Series is to introduce the public to small business resources.

The Series will draw attention to three sources of information that are freely available to city residents: CPL reference and circulating materials, SCORE services, and the experiential knowledge of local business owners. SCORE Cleveland is part of SCORE "Counselors to America's Small Business," a national nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth, and success of the nation's small businesses.

Once a year, during the brief run of the Cleveland International Film Festival, Cleveland feels like one of the great cities of the world. For a little more than a week the grand space of Tower City is filled with life; diverse crowds of art lovers flow in and out, steadily buzzing with excitement for what they are experiencing. Because it only happens once a year, it is easy to overlook The Cleveland International Film Festival as one of Cleveland's greatest assets.
