Wow -  I just realized Pere Ubu is in town tonight for a concert promoting their rave new album, "Why I Hate Women" - 10:15 PM at the Beachland Ballroom, with the New Lou Reeds opening at 9 PM. I had seen a glowing review of the new album in CoolCleveland this week but didn't notice about the show, which is a must see.... wee need a better way to spread word about arts and culture in NEO. Luckily, there was a feature in the Plain Dealer Friday section today, which gives the new album huge props too.

I've probably seen Pere Ubu 10 times over the years, through many line-up changes, and now 15 albums, and I've concluded they are one of the most important music forces in history (actually, I concluded that the first time I saw them, in like 1980, and after hearing Dub Housing the first time). Pere Ubu's art is largely abstracted through the unique perspective of leader, and former Clevelander, David Thomas' logical, honest and open approach toward sound and life. Through Pere Ubu, your mind is sent exploring many things - what is it saying, the structure of the messages, and the sonic expression, all of which become highly personal and dynamic, and are ultimately eternal. Not that Pere Ubu is just David Thomas... he is the Dada but Pere Ubu in any variation is always some of the most talented, expressive and creative musicians in the world, exploring their own creative extremes, always in original ways... always evolving.

- more to come on this show and album... be sure to catch the show tonight!
