Kylie Roulet gasping at astoundingly poor visibility from significant pollution in Cleveland, Ohio - July 28, 2010 - 3:00 PM

Dear realNEO:

I have forwarded the following request to Senator Sherrod Brown, who I have contacted regarding poor air quality and defective pollution monitoring in Northeast Ohio, and I expect a response this week that I will share with this community for action.

Norm

Mr. Ryan,

I'm sorry I missed your call.

I'm beginning to compile an issues list for air quality and perhaps you may introduce a staffer capable of answering the following:

Why is our air reading from the State EPA AirNow Site (screenshot attached) Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups now - what monitor data is this based upon - what formula determines that - what software calculates that - what human intervention has touched our air quality data today, where, by whom, under what authority - what are the air pollution conditions for the monitors that never work (Medina and Painesville) and the monitors that appear to sometimes work (Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, Sheffield Lake, Canton) - why does Cleveland only have one monitor when we had two before this Summer and which monitor location is reporting - why does Warren show a 24 hour reading yet no one hour - who is personally responsible and paid for maintaining the monitor equipment on site at each site - where are the performance records - where is the raw data - who is personally responsible and paid for the data transmissions to the Ohio EPA and any other data management and reporting services and who does have access to our monitor data in what formats -  who is personally responsible and paid for maintaining the data transmissions to Ohio University and the data analysis equipment and software at Ohio University and who has access to the equipment and data - what human interaction with the data and software is legal and authorized - who is responsible for the data at the Ohio EPA AirNow site http://www.airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=airnow.local_city&cityid=148 and the NOACA AirOhio site http://ohioair.info/quality/currentmap1hrPM25.asp that are always wrong - who is responsible for determining the air quality forecast for the following day that is always wrong - how are all these people able to be consistently wrong?

What does all this failure cost taxpayers at the city, county, state and Federal level, in what departments of government. What are the economic and health impacts on citizens, where?

Ultimately, what government official is responsible for all this failure, in total?

I'll have many other questions.

See screenshots

I look forward to talking soon,

Norm Roulet, and daughter Kylie Roulet

Follow-up question to Brown Organization

And please have someone respond to the specific issues raised here: http://realneo.us/content/un-sustainable-cleveland-2019-meet-realhoe-2010-hell-earth-real-neo-compliments-our-leadersh - about two months ago.

I believe the only thing that has changed is how poorly bad data is hidden and how thoroughly citizens are deceived, which have each gotten worse.

What on Earth do these charts represent?

What on Earth do these charts represent?

Broken Cleveland air quality monitoring from NOACA - July 29, 2010

July 29, 2010 - 12:31 AM - NOACA 24 hour PM data and charts are stuck at 9 PM or completely srong or broken as usual - typically will be manually updated around 6 AM and will then appear to be even more wrong... after the "air monitoring dude" wakes up - until then some data shows through and is all wrong

BROKEN NOACA Air Pollution Monitoring in Northeast Ohio July 29, 2010 12 AM

 - like the Rose and Line Charts above that show data posting through July 29 at 10 AM - 10 hours later than the actual time these charts were created, which is impossible.

As you can see, the monitoring for Cleveland has been broken the whole prior day and is stuck at 9 PM July 28, as of 12:17 AM July 29.

Typical - I save screenshots of similar data monitoring crimes or disasters daily

And then there was nothing

And then there was nothing... same charts as were wrong above... at 1:15 AM turned off completely

Kylie Roulet

Kylie will get their attention.  What a cutie!

From what I can see, a boycott will be necessary

From what I can see, a boycott will be necessary.

The fundamental problem is that polluters have a very hard time dealing with the realities of the harm they cause, hoping to die instead.

In my parents' case, all their wealth came from enabling harm and they continue to enable harm by being silent now about the death that results from the operation of Unversity Hospitals. As a doctor, that is throwing your license away.

As their leaders will not take responsibility for this general harm and take responsible action, now each individual stakeholder must carry their burdens. 100,000s of victims by association.

Dear Mattie at the Sierra Club:

Mattie,

My wife Evelyn and I would like to propose the establishment of a trust fund - perhaps in the care of the Sierra Club - for holding of funds given and willed to MCCO customer organizations by their stakeholders until those institutions are no longer burning coal.

Has that ever been done before - can you see about setting this in motion.

There are plenty of Case-related lawyers - I expect we can get any legal expenses covered pro bono - I know some care about the environment.

Let me know your thoughts,

Norm (and Evelyn) Roulet

sitting in an outdoor cafe, watching smoke bellow

Norm, last night I was sitting in an outdoor cafe watching the smoke stack near Ontario St. belch thick smuck in stark contrast against the bright lights of Jacob's field and wishing I'd brought my camera.

lOvely.

It was one of the clearest nights of the Summer

It was one of the clearest nights of the Summer - I went to photograph at sunset and the air hadn't been so clean since Mittal reopened... and the mill was shut down and it looked like they were having meetings and cleaning up the site...

But the blast furnace was running and it looks like all the pollution was back by morning

Last night was the best night all summer to be outside in downtown Cleveland... the flats even smelled great

Wonder if someone has called Mittal recently about their pollution?!?!

A senator maybe?!?!

Wow--I am a fan.  She has great presence and this is from someone who has seen some really unbelievable young folk in Brooklyn Centre.

Meanwhile, the weather and human impact of our unchecked behavior continues to wreak havoc.  Thank you for trying to make folks care about the environment and our future--for the kids.
