CASE DISMISSED!!!!

Submitted by DesireeSchmitt on Thu, 12/17/2009 - 14:38.

Went in front of Pianka today -  short update - case dismissed!!!

Thank you everyone for your support!

However, Tom Bell is in the same situation, if you get a chance this weekend and you are in the Tremont area, drive by the Flying Monkey.. the house immediately (adjoining) behind the Flying Monkey (facing Professor) is on the condemed/demolition list..!!!

I've invited Tom to join the discussion here.. everyone was very instrumental in stopping the craziness.

Off to work.. I'll post more later..

Demolition efforts continue

Submitted by DesireeSchmitt on Mon, 12/07/2009 - 10:04.

I've been away for awhile because some posts were getting negative and I have been battling so many wars over the past year, I needed to insulate myself and focus.

However, while attending the fundraiser for Frank yesterday, I was strongly encouraged to re-engage.

The conversations yesterday were both frustraiting and encouraging.

Building and Housing (B&H) is still after Tom Bell (2441-3 Professor) and myself (714-6) College.  B&H seems to be striking swifter and faster than before.

Urban Odor

Submitted by DesireeSchmitt on Mon, 03/09/2009 - 19:26.

Strange question..

Our block has a constant skunk spray smell.  It has now lasted through all four seasons, including winter.  Now that the spring rains are here and the moisture has increased the smell is really strong.

Ray of Sunshine

Todays experience was intense with the Cleveland Board of Building and Housing.

Pictures really do tell a thousand words... at least.

Presented before and after pics... the letters, emails, and petition of support...  landed a six month extention.

Now one tired me is resting with one tired puppy and kitty to gear up to hit the ground running tomorrow... now is where the fun part starts...

The State of Healthcare...

Submitted by DesireeSchmitt on Fri, 01/23/2009 - 14:19.

An unpopular topic, I know...

But a topic you may need addressed one day... for yourself... because none of us are getting any younger.

Today put another clinch in my already dismal view of our healthcare system.

Otherwise, I could be heathier than you.  Without healthcare... I'm sure I'm dieing a faster death...

I'm home now after being told the immediate growth on my wrist is a non-emergency.

For me...??  It's the world... my grandmother just died a couple years ago from bone cancer.

Enter Type I Diabetes.

tomorrow

Submitted by DesireeSchmitt on Tue, 01/20/2009 - 23:06.

Well, tomorrow morning is the presentation/meeting with the Board of Building & Housing Standards.

City Hall, 9AM, room 516.

This really wasn't enough time to prepare considering the time of the year, weather, holidays, economy... everyone is working overtime.  So, we'll see how it goes...

New Biz in Tremont

Submitted by DesireeSchmitt on Sat, 01/17/2009 - 22:52.

Check out Suki Yume in Tremont.  This is my tenant and she just put the finishing touches on her business... beautiful, new sign... window stickers... address numbers (finally) installed.

Paula is drawn to Asian Ball Joint Dolls (or ABJD) because of their beauty and unique customization.  You can take a blank doll and paint your own face, change the hair, change the eyes... make it your own.

Tremonts artistic base makes this shop a perfect fit.

Resale Issues in a poor economy

Submitted by DesireeSchmitt on Sun, 01/11/2009 - 19:23.

I just viewed a clip this evening and hit Google to find out more...

Congress recently passed a law to protect children under the age of 12 against lead poisoning.  The law was meant to protect against toys poisoned with lead, or lead based paint.  The law is actually very broadly written and also covers clothing... all clothing...

There is also very little guidance about the new law... basically... resale shops have to test every article to prevent against lead content... how will that work if testing costs more than the sale price of the garment?

IT Help

Submitted by DesireeSchmitt on Sat, 12/27/2008 - 10:52.

I need some I/T help.  Yes, I know I posted that I used to be in I/T, but I had such a bad experience with local government that I walked away.  And left all my geek skills behind me.

So, I'm in dire need of help.  I have a computer at the shop that needs more memory... in a bad, urgent way.

I also have a laptop that's MS Registry is bad.  I need to save my data and have the instructions to do so, it's just over my head these days and I have a million other things to do...

Any referals?

Tales from the Moon

Submitted by DesireeSchmitt on Thu, 12/25/2008 - 18:01.

This memory makes me smile and appreciate the struggles with my home.  I was working at Edison's and one of my regulars came in and found out which house I was renovating and he proceeded to tell me stories about the old candy store.  I love the stories of the Tremont old-timers and when I went home from work that night, I posted a blog about the conversation which was much more than a story about my home.  So, in the spirit of the holidays, sharing may make someone else smile as well...

Tremont Retail - Holiday Shopping

Submitted by DesireeSchmitt on Sat, 12/20/2008 - 10:33.

I was searching for the request for Tremont retail recommendations and I can't find it this morning, so I'm posting from scratch.

While retail is still a tough go in Tremont, we have more establishments now than ever before!  Have I also mentioned that if you take a step back and look at the Tremont Entrepreneurs... a big majority are women!

Here is a run down of the latest and greatest retail establishments (no offence to the restaurants & pubs, but most are already famous) ;)

The search for Entrepreneurs

So, while I'm fighting to save my home (reference Tremont Social Capital Thread) my personal and professional life have been severely suffering (duh).
