Bread and Chocolate

Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 12/13/2009 - 20:52.

The Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Victor Liva today at Zion United Church of Christ in Tremont today--was transcendent.

The music felt like chocolate for the soul, after subsisting on bread and water for too long.

Jefferson Avenue - Looking west up to what is now W. 3rd. I think it was named Central at that time. That building looks to be same one still standing at the bottom of Jefferson hill.

Absolute Power and the Reign of Terror

Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 12/06/2009 - 08:42.

ODOT and the control over ODOT to determine real estate and land use in NEO has been a reign of terror and an abuse of absolute power.  Whole neighborhoods and communities have been systematically wiped out.  Neighbors are expendable.

In the past, it was apparent that the man with absolute power was Albert S. Porter, County Engineer and Democratic Party Chair.*

A couple of concrete supports are still around. There are 2 at the bottom of Clark hill and Quigley. I 've heard that no one is sure who owns them. That seems odd. I think that they should be preserved in any case.

St Michael Church under construction at Clark and Scranton ca. 1890. Roof is incomplete and the steeples are yet to built. I never imagined that the stone was originally light.

Harvey Pekar at the Cleveland Public Library - Eastman Branch

Submitted by newmillenniumli... on Wed, 12/02/2009 - 15:21.

Before there was reality television and Jerry Seinfeld, there was Harvey Pekar.  For over 30 years, his autobiographical comic book series American Splendor has elevated day-to-day existence into art.  At the podium, he is mundane yet poetic, honest and profound, and shares his unique views in a not-to-be-missed multi-media presentation.

Get up close and personal with the master of the mundane when he visits the Eastman Branch of the Cleveland Public Library.  This program is free and open to the public.

Exquisite decay.

On Thanksgiving eve, a little over a year following the death of Ed Hauser - the primary community activist for preservation of the National Historic Landmark Dyer Coast Guard Station, on Whiskey Island - I went Hauser Way to photograph this best location in the nation, to share with you on Thanksgiving day. Enjoy.

Busking in Cleveland

Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 11/15/2009 - 19:08.

On my way to hear the amazing Loung Ung at Cleveland Public Library, I caught a few minutes of Busker Bradley J. on East Fourth St.

He is scraping by in NEO by playing guitar on the streets.  So far, he has eluded the authorities, and he admits he hasn't checked the cost of a busker license.

Sally Grizell Larson's photo-realistic, chromogenic, digital assemblage prints are something quite extraordinary.  Recently I had a chance to speak with her while she was in the midst of screening one of her films in South America.

Visit Art Digital Magazine to read the interview and see more work.
