HUNGER STRIKE TO SAVE JOHN MARSHALL HIGH SCHOOL STARTED ON NOVEMBER 20, 2012 AT 12:01 A.M.

November 20, 2012 Meeting held at Anton Grdina School,

Good Evening!
 
Madam Link, Members of the Board of Education, and CEO Gordon.

My name is Satinder P. S. Puri.

*Congratulations on the passage of the 15-mill levy.

*City Hall has meted out gross injustice -- through sustained & collusive inaction, and vote rigging – to petitioners who want to SAVE JOHN MARSHALL HIGH SCHOOL.

*A School District that aspires to be the premier district in the United States and teaches our children ethics and fair play has not played fair  with over 2,400 petitioners in the $50 million John Marshall High School (JMHS) Construction Project.

Meanwhile the School District has started to demolish our architectural gem.

*While fasting has been in progress since May 1, 2012, today is the first day of the hunger strike which will continue indefinitely unless the demand is met.

The original demand was that Mayor Jackson and others
(Councilman and City Council President Martin J. Sweeney;
CMSD CEO Eric S. Gordon; Chair of CMSD Board of Education Denise W. Link;
Cleveland Landmarks Commission Chair Jennifer Coleman;
Manager of Architecture Robert Vilkas;
Councilman Anthony Brancatelli; and Councilwoman Phyllis E. Cleveland)
provide written responses by Monday November 19, 2012 at the latest,  to questions (on the $50 million John Marshall High School Construction Project) all in the context of  Mayor Jackson’s statement: I have “never lied to you” and the The Plain Dealer’s call for honesty, trustworthiness, accountability, clarity, and transparency in public officials.

NO RESPONSE WAS RECEIVED FROM MAYOR JACKSON – DESPITE MULTIPLE REMINDERS (TO THE E-MAIL & CERTIFIED MAIL OF NOVEMBER 8, 2012 – VIA E-MAIL ON NOV. 12, NOV. 14. NOV. 15, NOV. 16 & NOV. 17, 2012 AND VIA CERTIFIED MAIL ON NOV. 15, 2012).

MAYOR JACKSON HAS THUS DEMONSTRATED THAT HIS STATEMENT: I HAVE “NEVER LIED TO YOU” HAS NO VERACITY.

A 2ND REMINDER WAS SENT TO GOVERNOR KASICH (VIA CERTIFIED MAIL TODAY ON 11-20-12) TO ORDER THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO CEASE & DESIST FROM DEMOLISHING HISTORIC 80-YEAR OLD JOHN MARSHALL HIGH SCHOOL. THE HUNGER STRIKE WILL CONTINUE INDEFINITELY UNTIL THE DEMAND FOR THE CEASE & DESIST ORDER IS MET!

(IF AN ORDER TO THE CLEVELAND METROPOLITAN SCHOOL DISTRICT TO CEASE & DESIST FROM DEMOLISHING HISTORIC 80-YEAR OLD JOHN MARSHALL HIGH SCHOOL IS NOT IMPLEMENTED BY RETURN MAIL – BECAUSE OF GROSS IRREGULARITIES THAT HAVE TAKEN PLACE AND ALSO IN LIGHT OF THE FACT THAT MAYOR JACKSON & OTHERS DID NOT RESPOND TO THE QUESTIONS IN THE NOVEMBER 8, 2012 DOCUMENT (ALL IN THE CONTEXT OF MAYOR JACKSON’S STATEMENT: I HAVE “NEVER LIED TO YOU”
AND THE PLAIN DEALER’S CALL FOR HONESTY, TRUSTWORTHINESS, ACCOUNTABILITY, CLARITY, AND TRANSPARENCY IN PUBLIC OFFICIALS)
– THEN THE HUNGER STRIKE THAT STARTED ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2012 AT 12:01 A.M. – WILL CONTINUE INDEFINITELY UNTIL THE DEMAND FOR THE CEASE & DESIST ORDER IS MET!)

A Hunger Strike  is a Cry for Justice when due process is denied to citizens who have neither power nor wealth.
                              
If despite our best efforts, the School District engages in destroying our architectural gem, our auditorium, our underground running tracks, and our swimming pool – then the act of the wanton destruction will forever live in infamy – and so will the names of all those who facilitated the senseless act.
