Mix One Part Solar With One Part Art....

Submitted by Charles Frost on Fri, 03/02/2007 - 14:17.

Well, this seems a good place to share one of my fun things.  I have found a number of enjoyable solar photos on the web over the last few years by using the Google Image search (one of those blue links on their home page).  So, I thought I might post some of my favorites from time to time... sort of my version of Evelyn Kiefer's most enjoyable "Monet of the Day" series:

Monet of the Day: FROST, 1885

Submitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Mon, 02/26/2007 - 22:16.

A limited palette and an intimate, close up view of nature make this an arresting modern work. In January of 1885 Monet experienced weather something like what we had in Cleveland just two weeks ago. Temperatures in France that month were unusually cold, averaging around 21 degrees and snow altered the landscape close to Monet's home in Giverny. Winter scenes were popular among the Impressionists and Claude Monet had painted his first in 1865, very early in his career.

Monet of the Day: Garden at Sainte-Adresse

Submitted by Evelyn Kiefer on Wed, 02/21/2007 - 18:00.

Claude Monet's paintings are pretty. For this reason some people love his work and other dismiss it as decorative and superficial. "Monet in Normandy", the exhibition on now at the Cleveland Museum of Art, brings us over 50 works by one of the world's best known painters and presents them in an intellectual manner that may even make you see those water lily tote bags and umbrellas in a different light.

CIA brings hip headline act to Archifest Cleveland 2010 - hard acts to follow

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 02/17/2007 - 15:08.

In what represents significant progress with a very positive trend, the Cleveland Institute of Art has announced their selection of one of the world's most respected hip young architecture firms, MVRDV, to design the new campus for CIA. Based out of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the new CIA design will be MVRDV's first work in North America. Add this to the selection by MOCA of Foreign Office Architects of London, for their new museum and we have two of the hot creative properties in the world focusing their best efforts on two of NEO's most important institutions and design projects, both located within strolling distance in the University Circle redevelopment area called "The Triangle."

Proposal for intergenerational guitar classes by Charlie Mossbrook

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 02/10/2007 - 04:01.

As my first post since realneo.us became realneo.org, I'd like to propose a program of Intergenerational guitar classes, I believe Charlie Mossbrook will be happy to instruct. There should be a suggested payment for the class, to compensate Charlie. I'd love to see the classes held in East Cleveland - perhaps the Helen Brown Center or MacGregor, or both. The class would be open to all ages from say 12 up. I believe the only other thing we would need is guitars - so I guess we will need to ask for donations.

Art of the Day: Sea of Ice/Wreck of the Hope

I am posting this in response to Jeff's insightful comments on that warm, colorful painting from SoCal. Your are right, few artists seem to paint the north and south poles.

Great Lakes Bioneers Cleveland - Planning Retreat a Success

Great Lakes Bioneers Cleveland - Planning Retreat a Success

An exciting day it was for the steering committee of Great Lakes Bioneers Cleveland.
Most of the members were on hand for the initial planning retreat which took place at the CanalWay Center, near the banks of our river that burned.

The planning retreat was facilitated by Gloria Rivera and Paula Cathcart, the organizers from the Great Lakes Bioneers Detroit site that has been up and running for 2 years. Cleveland's planning has been in gear since 3rd quarter 06 approximately when steering comm. members were funded to travel to other satellite sites in our reagion to learn more.

Great Lakes Bioneers Cleveland recently received approval to host a beaming site. CSU will host the event via live satellite uplink from the primary conference site in San Raphael, CA.

    What is Bioneers????

Bioneers was conceived to conduct programs in the conservation of biological and cultural diversity, traditional farming practices, and environmental restoration.  Our vision of environment encompasses the natural landscape, cultivated landscape, biodiversity, cultural diversity, watersheds, community economics, and spirituality. Bioneers seeks to unite nature, culture and spirit in an Earth-honoring vision, and create economic models founded in social justice.

Bioneers are biological pioneers who are working with nature to heal nature and ourselves. They have peered deep into the heart of living systems to devise strategies for restoration based on nature's own operating instructions. They come from many cultures and perspectives, and all walks of life.

Born with a hereditary hearing loss, Briscoe never let her disability derail her from her life and career aspirations. What emerged in 1995 was the bestselling Sisters and Lovers.
