Police say efforts have reduced shootings in four Cleveland neighborhoods

Submitted by Quest-News-Serv... on Wed, 07/25/2012 - 02:46.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Area law enforcement agencies have spent the past year zeroing in on surges of gun violence in Cleveland, and significantly reduced the number of shootings in many of the neighborhoods. Cleveland Police Commander Gary Gingell, who coordinated the local, state and federal effort, reported at a Tuesday news conference that the operations resulted in the recovery of nearly 60 illegal guns and hundreds of arrests.

HENRY SENYAK OUR STREETLIGHTING-FIGHTING CRIME HERO CONTRACT HASN'T BEEN RENEWED - WHY - POLITICS - THE PEOPLE SUFFER

Submitted by Quest-News-Serv... on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 04:13.

Good morning everyone:  I was requested by many to send out a email to address the status of my contracting position and to list options. Over the past two weeks the emails I received from individuals and Safety Committees at CDC's dictated that I need to let everyone know my contract expired on 6/30/12 to report and track streetlights.

Iceland Has Hired An Ex-Cop To Hunt Down The Bankers That Wrecked Its Economy

Submitted by Quest-News-Serv... on Mon, 07/16/2012 - 15:59.

"On one hand, we have to investigate all suspicion of fraud and offences committed before 2009, on the other hand, we bring the lawsuits against the suspects to court ourselves," Hauksson explains. This is a 'totally new' method which allows the investigators to "follow the case" and the judicial system to "know the cases like the back of their hand". This is indispensable in order "to compete with the well-prepared defence attorneys".

Independence Day

Submitted by lmcshane on Wed, 07/04/2012 - 17:10.

I will post more photos soon--I am compiling images from my neighborhood for a Brooklyn Centre bicentennial celebration 1812-2012.  The little girl above may not appreciate the significance of Independence Day until she is older--her family emigrated from Burundi.  It has been very typical for new Americans to arrive via the Brooklyn Centre neighborhood.

CLE+ Condemnation=Demos for Developers

Submitted by lmcshane on Wed, 07/04/2012 - 05:21.

At a dinner conversation the other day, I was told by a person who works with area businesses that the City of Cleveland can condemn a property --regardless of the building condition-- if the water bill is in arrears--true?

I would not be surprised:

We all allow millions of gallons of wastewater to be flushed downstream at a cost to taxpayers?? There has to be a better way!

Citi refused to accept mortgage payments, scheduled auction BUT

Submitted by Oldroser on Thu, 06/21/2012 - 23:08.

The woman's activist son had been helping others fight to keep their homes, possibly the bank was retaliating, the auction was scheduled even though she'd been told an executive would work with her, but the community rallied behind her; and lo and behold, they changed their mind. Even worked out new payment arrangement so she pays less.

Would we do this? Greeks face hunger, help prisoners w. no food

Submitted by Oldroser on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 17:48.

All indications suggest that basic services in Greece have begun to break down, with reports from several Greek prisons and military installations indicating that prisoners are malnourished and starving. Food shortages caused by austerity related spending cuts and truck stoppages are also reportedly reducing daily rations for soldiers stationed in the area of Corinth, Greece.

We may very well be seeing the cracks in a society on the verge of complete meltdown.

Important upcoming ODOT meetings! NOT listed in TWDC Newsletter

Submitted by Oldroser on Tue, 06/05/2012 - 00:31.
I had been told in a email that at the meeting THIS WEDNESDAY, June 6, at Sokolowski’s (no time given, but they have been starting at 5:30 p.m.) ODOT and their design consultant would meet with the local community to discuss streetscape options along 14th Street and Abbey Avenue. One idea under consideration is the use of excess right-of-way (excess???, are they giving up on the parking lot, which shows future parking taking even more space as per last meeting that discussed this) as a community garden or urban orchard.

As I sat in the BOZA hearing this morning and listened to all the bull, lies and self proclamations - it crossed my mind to just get up and walk out.  However, I stayed to hear the outcome of the mockery that was made in response to the rights and requests of residential property owners.

Dear Joe: (cimperman)

Please take a moment and compose yourself. I was not happy how you twisted words of all the testimony at BOZA today.  I am not happy with Mr. McNair, and I told him so right in front of Director Wobser. The mere fact 300 support letters from Timbuktu by your surrogates is a clear fact that someone is trying to bully the situation.

Feel Good Report Card Signs

Submitted by mabeldog on Sun, 05/27/2012 - 12:59.

Last year when the Ohio Department of Education released their scorecard information on all state schools, the Cleveland Municipal School District scored 1 (that's right ONE) out of 26. FYI the 10th Grade reading score was the only passing entry BARELY squeaking by with a 76.4%, 1.6% above the bare minimum. A very few schools improved their status and new signs were rushed to the printer and hung proudly above the entry door. For all the other schools, that did WORSE, which was most of them, the previous year's sign was left to flutter and fade in the brutal Cleveland elements.
