Information TechnologySAVING SANSAISubmitted by Keith Winston on Mon, 05/10/2010 - 18:51.
Today I walked through one of the most exciting plants in the Collinwood community. and I learned that this plant is for health, and I saw some of the most interesting things. And seeing the product that this company produce is incredible. This company is producing something that is good for us all, and also trying to create jobs for the community, and as needed how cool is that.

Introducing the realNEO/coop technology committee - open to all members of realNEO/coopSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 05/10/2010 - 00:49.
Dear realNEO Members and so Real Coop owners, realNEO was founded October 7, 2004, making this our 6th year providing a free, open source content management system and social computing platform to the citizens of Northeast Ohio and the world... for the past few years as a cooperative. In this 6th year, we have reached a stage of ad hoc organizational maturity whereby we have a large, real, engaged community of members who have been active with realNEO for years, who share foundational commitments to openness, truth and freedom, and who are working in concert for the sustainability of our communities... both our virtual realNEO/coop community and our real NEO neighborhoods, around the world. With maturation comes the opportunity to evolve, with the knowledge we have gained in our lives, now including over 5 years of realNEO.

IT Update - Change To Blog Submission Form - Promote Your Own Pages To Home, If AuthorizedSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 05/07/2010 - 21:47.
IT Update - Change To Blog Submission Form - Promote Your Own Pages To Home, If Authorized In response to problems with some real coop members posting content on realNEO that is harmful or objectionable to other members, and some members abusing the coop trust structure, it has been found advisable to change how content is promoted to the home page of realNEO. In the past, all content has automatically been promoted to the home page for all members, regardless of content. Now, when you post your content, you must select to post it to the home page yourself, if authorized - you will see that option available to you in the last section of the blog (and other content type) submission form - "Publishing Options"... check "Promoted to front page". If you have been asked not to promote your content to the home page, please respect that request and leave this option unchecked. Otherwise, check this option to send your content to the home page as usual.
“Whatever comes will flow west of Dry Tortugas and towards Cuba before it comes back north.”Submitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 05/05/2010 - 00:20.
We are still at an early stage in awareness of issues surrounding the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, including the amount of oil flowing from the spill daily and the effectiveness of efforts to stop the flow of oil and clean-up the mess - below are some of the latest estimates and updates as reported by various sources. Most interesting now is the forecasting of how all this oil - best or worst case - will travel through the gulf and ocean currents and impact nature and so all else on Earth. The best modeling of this I have seen is by the The College of Marine Science - USF, Ocean Circulation Group, which maintains a coordinated program of coastal ocean observing and modeling for the West Florida Continental Shelf (WFS) - you may see their models animated with projections through May 8 in the links below. For an excellent article on the anticipated impacts on Florida of this oil spill, I have also included part of an article from the LA Times, with link to that - these seem to be the latest accurate reflections on this horrible situation, as of May 4.
Video of the Day: "Sing Out" - Charlie Mosbrook... soon touring LakewoodSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 05/03/2010 - 19:28.
Friends of Charlie Mosbrook (seems nearly everyone in Cleveland) have been concerned for his sudden health issues this year, and gladdened to see him back up, around, and performing stronger than ever. Featured above is a video from Charlie's website - inspiring, as is all his work - and he has many events upcoming - two in Lakewood may interested realNEO readers (we have lots of traffic in Lakewood)...

ICEarth Bigbang computers, our Linux distro, and our optimal open source data and application configurations are designed to handle the most processor (CPU and GPU), memory and transaction intensive challenges in the world, to save Earth. Doing that requires an integration of our regional and global geographic information systems with layers of valuable insight not yet integrated, like environmental, atmospheric and topographic data, to drive analyses of life impacting factors in our neighborhoods like environmental fallout from all sources of pollution, to the home and child, for free to them. A good explanation of the type of data and analyses included in such capabilities is described below, helping you make sense of what just doesn't make sense, by doing things like growing GRASS...

NEW Rocket From The Tombs of the Day: "I Sell Soul"Submitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 04/30/2010 - 22:25.
I was watching the Pere Ubu "We Have The Technology" video over and over today and I was thinking why doesn't everyone in NEO appreciate David Thomas like they appreciate LeBron James. Not in tennis shoe sponsorships, but with pride and celebration. Do area residents realize the king of ubu projex is from Cleveland and still makes this his home court? Very few places in the world may make such an important claim to modern cultural significance, and David Thomas is in his prime.

Question of the Day: What is the Connection between Lead Poisoning, renal function, diabetes, and hypertensionSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 04/29/2010 - 14:24.
Whether you care about childhood lead poisoning or not, I think you'll be interested by important insight on Lead, Diabetes, Hypertension, and Renal Function that everyone in the world should understand. Think of the cost of this on society - the suffering, reduced quality of life, and lost years for so many people, caused by lead harming kidney function. Here's the intro and abstract - you'll need to set up an account on WebMD to read the rest (apparently free - this is not an endorsement of WebMD... I am not a member... I will join to read the rest of this and let you know my thoughts)...

Another Issue I Support To Bring Funding To The IT Sector in NEO - Yes on Issue 1Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 04/29/2010 - 13:58.
While I have never considered Issue 1 - the Third Frontier - offered me direct opportunity, as an Information Technology entrepreneur I do recognize this relatively low-burden, low-exposure state funding offers great opportunities for many other important technology initiatives across Ohio. The results are well documented by the well organized supporters of Issue 1 - see their message posted below - and I certainly expect this will pass by a large majority (if not, I will be shocked). Assuming this passes, I'd like to see changes in the processes for how Third Frontier money is used in the future, as I believe all our processes in the state and region must become brighter and greener. But we can't try to accomplish that without this funding being available for the technology sector. I'll vote for Issue 1, and then become active making sure the money has as great an impact as possible - results so far provide a good foundation. I recommend you do the same... see the official story below:

NEO Leaders Speak Of Driving New Economy Growth - Since November, 2008, real NEO Has Grown Like This!Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 04/29/2010 - 10:38.
I've been asked what our traffic looks like over time, so I pulled a few quick charts of the number of visitors to realneo since we started using Google Analytics, and what they have visited, to measure performance of this site - and we've grown by pretty much all counts I've considered important by 30-100% since then - in some cases by 1,000s% - in less than a year-and-a-half.

"Kudos on providing a forum for hatred, racism and trolling. Hope you considered this project a "success"" - believelandd. I couldn't say it better myself... this comment by a Cleveland.com reader, posted on Cleveland.com today, condemning the departing "Chief Executive" of the smoke and mirrors PlainDealer/Newhouse's wretched little portal to spam. Hard to calculate anything that has harmed development of the new economy in Cleveland so much in our history... and so The Chief Executive is being universally trashed in departure.

Welcome to White Trash Facemobs, Compliments of the Terrorists Running FACEBOOKSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Tue, 04/27/2010 - 13:15.
There is a new Facemob that is degrading society worldwide, as is the Facebook purpose. This trashy Facemob is called DEAR LORD, THIS YEAR YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTOR, PATRICK SWAYZIE. YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTRESS, FARAH FAWCETT. YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE SINGER, MICHAEL JACKSON. I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW, MY FAVORITE PRESIDENT IS BARACK OBAMA. AMEN. To think "Social Computing" consultants in Cleveland are paid (probably with our tax dollars) to force citizens to use Facebook, just to interact with Cleveland City Council - I believe that foolishness must NOW STOP! Those responsible must be terminated.
Song of the Day: "We Have The Technology" - Pere UbuSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Tue, 04/27/2010 - 01:45.
Looking forward to the latest work of David Thomas and Ubu Projex - new releases from Rocket From The Tombs - look back 20+ years... then 30+ years... and see real NEOans have always had the technology, and why it is like a cup, at its best...
If You Are A "Politician" In Northeast Ohio Not Committed To Lead Poisoning Eradication, You Must ResignSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 04/26/2010 - 05:00.
2008 Lead Poisonings of children in Cuyahoga County, Ohio - do not move here The Greater Cleveland Lead Advisory Council has released data on children in the neighborhoods of Cleveland and surrounding suburbs who were tested and documented as lead poisoned in Cuyahoga County in 2008 - about 3,200 of our Cleveland children were KNOWN to be lost to lead poisoning - about 4,000 children poisoned in Cuyahoga County overall. As only a small percentage of our children are actually tested for lead poisoning, the numbers of children in the County lost to lead poisoning is much higher... 1,000s of victims higher. Cleveland's worst known mass-murderer, Anthony Sowell, is only known to have killed 11 people.... yet that has captured 1000s of inches of pointless newsprint... hours of pointless news coverage... to help nobody.

“Who has the most scientific knowledge of large-scale organization, collection, and access to information? Librarians,”Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sun, 04/25/2010 - 21:42.
For a humorous take on a previous transition—the shift from scrolls to books— realNEO is popular with librarians, and our members are certainly data intellectuals, so I expect an extensive treatment of the future of libraries - Gutenberg 2.0 - in the May/June Harvard Magazine will be of great interest here. The insightful feature begins:

Question of the Day: Who pays for the unCoolCleveland Dynasty And Why?Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 04/24/2010 - 13:57.
I just stumbled through the stark, ghost-town of Ed-and-Hunter-Morrison-self-promoting formerly George-Nemeth-self-promoting Brewed Fresh Daily land, and over to the neon lights of the glitzy apparently paid product placement based unCoolCleveland dynasty, now featuring original low budget video programming called NEOtropolis... after I finished puking, a lot, I wondered who pays for this unCoolCleveland Dynasty and why? Who really believes such propaganda may be real? Or cool? Or helpful for our economy?
Who really cares whether Sweeney took a bribe or not, considering the state of HIS CITY?!?!Submitted by Norm Roulet on Sat, 04/24/2010 - 09:17.
Interesting to see a man who has been responsible for lead poisoning 1,000s of children - 100,000s throughout his "political career" - now "DEFEND" himself about anything, yet here our Cleveland City Council PRESIDENT proclaims "I am not a crook". SO TYPICAL of our incompetent, irresponsible "leaders" to our deathcamp here.

Stranger than unrealest NEO: PD's Phillip Morris Is Related to "Lawmiss", Daughter of Judge Saffold... Who Are Suing PDSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 04/23/2010 - 03:50.
I was just reading the latest installment of Goldberg's Folly - Were 'governmentwatcher' posts made by same user as 'lawmiss'? - the stranger-than-fiction real-time reality showing of the persecution of Judge Saffold by the editor of the region's monopoly newspaper, the Cleveland Plain Dealer... and I finally saw revealed the smoking gun the PD couldn't keep under the mattress any longer, as this matter went before the state Supreme Court, and is headed to civil trial... it turns out this case is all about who gets the wishbone at the Saffold family Thanksgiving dinner... Judge Saffold or her not-kissing-cousin, PD columnist Phillip Morris...

Opening statement in City Club of Cleveland debate by U.S. Senate Democratic candidate Secretary of State Jennifer BrunnerSubmitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 04/15/2010 - 14:27.
I was pleased to see posted on Secretary of State Brunner's campaign for U.S. Senator blog a video provided by the Cleveland Plain Dealer of her opening remarks at the City Club debate, this week. This was the highlight of the entire debate... watch to the end, as she differentiates herself from Fisher - nice to see the PD make this available, including allowing it to be embedded in other sites.
