REALNEO

A proper place in the community

Submitted by Glowbawl on Sun, 03/29/2009 - 22:17.

Please read...it is a request for everyone to try and make sure there is a respectful comfort zone for all of the people in the community. Much of the ragtag cut'em up search them out diatribe that gets posted to this site has a very real destructive counterside. Yeah, I know I said this before, but it's gotten much worse and more spiteful. Now it may not effect you directly or immediately but it does often become a dig into somebody else. Somewhere down the road we all have interactive connections and old frayed ends diminish everyone's ability to move ahead.

Lou Pumphrey in uniform carrying Flag of Peace in 2009 St. Patrick's Day Parade

I was surprised to see a letter to the editor printed and on-line in the Sunday, March 22, 2009, Cleveland Plain Dealer - "A flag of peace is found out of order at the St. Patrick's Day parade", by Lou Pumphrey. It starts: "Being half-Irish (on me mudder's side), off work on St. Patrick's Day and knowing the day would be sunny and warm, I vaguely considered donning my 41-year-old U.S. Army dress uniform and joining the St. Paddy's Day parade downtown, carrying my flag." But there was no accompanying picture of Lou or the Flag of Peace.

In the print edition, there was a file photo of a parade, but it was hardly relevant.

Citizen Dashboard proposal

Submitted by marccanter on Fri, 03/13/2009 - 22:10.

Howdy.

My name is Marc Canter.  I was the guy who first introduced Norm Roulet to Drupal like 5 years ago. (or was it four? - it's hard to keep track.)

Anyway I've recently been working with Norm on a new proposal called the 'Citizen Dashboard'.  Its been fashioned for Cuyahoga County - but could (obviously) be used anywhere. I've posted it on my blog and facebook today and I'll be flogging this horse as I collect input from you folks.  That's my next step.

So please - HAVE AT IT!

Spam-blocking stats for REALNEO

Spam-blocking stats for REALNEO: Aug 30th, 2008 through Feb 10th, 2009. We've seen quite a leap in activity very recently.

We currently use Mollom (one of Dries' newer projects) to protect the following forms:

  • site-wide contact
  • user registration
  • user password request

All of the orange Spam attempts blocked you see in the image are attempts on those forms -- most likely, user registrations. You can barely see the green, which are non-spam attempts.

Moebius Nature Center Yellow Spotted Salamander!

Join Dr. Jim Tomko and others for a walk in the winter woodland where (if we are lucky and have some fresh snow) we will learn the stories of our local wildlife. Birds, mammals, and other creatures leave distinctive "calling cards" for us to discover their identities and quests. Meet at Moebius Nature Center (the greenest nature center around ;-) dressed for the weather snow or shine.

Arts and Crafts Movement

In the images of Frank Giglio's home, I saw a house that had been built with some of the tenets of the Arts and Crafts movement. Sadly, we have no appreciation for fine construction and buildings built to last. I google mapped Frank's house and realize now that Google has provided another way to capture the essence of an area: http://www.panoramio.com/

As 32 Cuyahoga County mayors endorse Peter Lawson Jones for commissioner, PD Plays Race Card

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Tue, 10/21/2008 - 07:21.

I've been waiting to see how the Cleveland Plain Dealer is going to attempt to escape the shame of having endorsed for Cuyahoga County commissioner the highly unqualified and now under fire Bay Village mayor Debbie Sutherland, before she even debated the highly qualified and well respected incumbent, Peter Lawson Jones. Sutherland lost her first debate... and she lost her second debate... and, I understand, she lost four debates against Jones organized by the League of Women Voters for high school children... and she will lose the City Club debate (for Sutherland, losing has meant being obviously unprepared, unqualified, flustered, angry, embarrassed and even booed, in past cases). There was no excuse for the PD endorsing Sutherland, and now they must report 32 Cuyahoga County mayors endorse Peter Lawson Jones for commissioner. The PD editors are surely embarrassed over Sutherland, by now, so they are certainly looking for excuses, including attempting to make the race about race. I expect we'll see lots of this racist behavior in the coming months, years, and decades, in various death spirals, as the last generations of real American racists die away.

Do we possess sufficient courage...?

It used to be the American mantra. If you needed something, you made it. You didn't wait for it to be built in China. America, we are standing in a hole. Begging Washington for more money is not going to get us out of the hole.
